Wednesday Wing News The Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has chosen Boeing to develop a prototype and conduct flight testing of its upcoming Glide Breaker hypersonic interceptor. An interceptor is a weapon designed to destroy other missiles mid-flight before they reach their targets. Glide Breaker is a planned huge leap forward in missile interceptors, as it's designed to target the highly maneuverable class of weapons known as hypersonic glide vehicles, which are able to execute abrupt "zig-zag" maneuvers as they glide unpowered through Earth's atmosphere at speeds of Mach 5 and higher. We are excited to support Boeing + DARPA's efforts towards space security. This interceptor is FAST and AGILE, precisely the type of weapon we need to defend the ultimate high ground of the space domain. Northrop Grumman Corporation successfully completed tests of several crucial elements of the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), marking significant progress for the program in its engineering, manufacturing and development phase. Forward and aft sections of a Sentinel ICBM missile were evaluated through a rigorous test campaign at the company’s Strategic Missile Test and Production Complex in Promontory, Utah. The tests lower risk for the program with important data about the missile’s inflight structural dynamics. Data from the tests help engineering teams mature models, lower risk and ensure flight success. The shroud fly-off and missile modal tests were part of the company’s engineering, manufacturing, and development (EMD), or design, contract for Sentinel. Northrop Grumman is closely partnered with the Air Force as the EMD phase progresses and key milestones are achieved.The Sentinel program is a modernization of the nation’s ground-based leg of the strategic triad and is planned to be viable through 2075. Modeling and Simulation of Aerospace Military Operations 🛰 This video demonstrates a low-altitude attack mission within the Aerospace Simulation Environment (Ambiente de Simulação Aeroespacial - ASA). The simulation showcases evasion tactics against surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs), highlighting the capabilities of the tool developed by the Instituto de Estudos Avançados (IEAv) of the Força Aérea Brasileira - FAB. Initially focused on aerospace defense, the ASA's basic model library now includes a wide range of scenario elements, including aircraft, missiles, bombs, radars, anti-aircraft defenses, and ground targets. The framework's modular architecture facilitates the expansion of its model base, allowing for the inclusion of new systems and subsystems from terrestrial, maritime, aerial, or space domains. This flexibility underscores ASA’s utility in simulating a diverse array of operational scenarios, making it a vital tool for strategic military planning and analysis. Shoal’s Aerospace and Risk Capability (SHARC) is a set of tools that enables modelling of complex aerospace systems, and their failure modes. It supports clients in conducting complex activities, such as flight trials, in compliance with relevant (national or international) Range Safety Standards, including the Australian Flight Safety Code, by evaluating the safe operational boundary of the proposed trial. There are many applications for SHARC.
