A new facility is coming to the southern CA region, bringing care options closer to home. Residents, healthcare leaders, and market stats all suggest that this is exactly what the area needs. For those living in the area, this means better options for care nearer to you, without having to drive over an hour for the type of doctor you need. Bringing top-notch care options closer to residents is critical to access and changes how many will experience treatment in the area. It means less cost to patients who travel out of town and pay for overnight stays. It means actually getting the care you deserve for those who are not able to overcome geographical and financial barriers to care in their region. For those working in rad-onc or planning to, and are from the area, you are getting a brand new facility as an option for your career. You can reconsider having to move away from your relatives to get the best job in your field. A trusted name and the best minds in the field are now in your backyard. This will drive oncology professionals to the region for better cost of living, housing, and research opportunities. I look forward to participating on a panel at the Intelligent Health Association’s 2023 International Summit, along with Vikrant Arora and Brad Marsh BSN, RN, CEN, moderated by the esteemed David Finn. The age of AI in healthcare means the opportunity to enhance efficiency, improve patient outcomes, and transform how health services are delivered. Adoption is through diagnostic support, predictive analytics, virtual assistants, administrative efficiency, remote patient monitoring, drug discovery, education development, and, last but not least, strengthening cybersecurity. The ethics of AI in healthcare is concerned with patient privacy, data security, and bias in algorithms. Additionally, the rapid development and deployment of AI technologies may outpace the regulatory frameworks, creating a challenge to ensure the use of AI meets established safety and efficacy standards. What is the balance between innovation and regulation? For a cybersecurity professional, the challenges include the acquisition of AI security expertise, ensuring all data is encrypted and protected, access controls and authentication to the system that leverage AI, including heightened security through a layered approach, and continuous monitoring, Compliance with healthcare regulation (HIPAA), and gaining a deep understanding of how AI models and algorithms include security protection for the data. We have four projects underway being pilot tested in order for best practices to be promote nationally. These projects specifically empower residents to have control over their personal and community life, and #CNAs to grow in their career and nursing home roles. 👉 We'll be releasing a microsite later this week with "how to" guides. 🌟 Strengthening our voice for consensus of solutions. We're continuing to bring together diverse voices to identify solutions (big and small) we can all agree on. 👉 This week we'll have three consensus-backed federal policy recommendations to move forward with necessary shifts. 🌟 Seeking partners as we can't do it alone. 👉 We need help funding and scaling other promising projects to: incentivize household models, ensure surveyors have training in person-centered care, and make person-centered care planning a part of nursing home electronic health records. Two important pieces of legislation on the docket for this year's DOTH. HR 955/S 1849: Sustaining Outpatient Services Act seeks to redress the inequity in CMS reimbursement when a CR/PR program relocates off campus or opens a new facility off the grounds of the main hospital. HR 1406/S 3021: Sustainable Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services in the Home Act seeks to make many of the waivers that CMS granted during the PHE permanent. These waivers allowed for the delivery of virtual CR/PR and for the daily supervising provider requirement to be met virtually. The last point is critical (no pun intended) for CAH in rural areas. AACVPR is sending the entire BOD to D.C. this year to impress upon Congress how important these bills are. Hope to see you there.
