💧 The ‘Digitising Water Resilience Monitoring in Basins’ initiative, offered under the European Space Agency - ESA's Business Applications and Space Solutions programme in partnership with the CEO Water Mandate’s Water Resilience Coalition, aims to support digital and space technology partners to develop water resilience monitoring capabilities. The first batch of Feasibility Studies selected under the initiative has been announced at COP28 UAE. We’re excited to share the first of those projects with you today. ‘SWIM’ – ‘Surface Water Information Management - is a water monitoring and management system developed by e.Ray Europa GmbH which provides real-time monitoring for our waters. ‘The system uses the latest techniques for measuring water parameters, combined with data from Earth observation satellites to closely monitor coastal areas, rivers and lakes. Continual monitoring and real-time alerts mean that swift countermeasures can be taken, driven by reliable data, to safeguard vital aquatic habitats. With the increased focus on the role of the ocean’s role in regulating climate change, there is a greater demand for data concerning the ocean carbon flux, and therefore creating the need for the community of scientists involved in various aspects of the value chain to come together and plan how to deliver this data in a more effective and streamlined way.    The Oostende Declaration is the culmination of a vigorous workshop held last November in Belgium and hosted by VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute, of which several of our OceanICU project colleagues participated, along with 100  + ocean experts and stakeholders from different international groups. The declaration is a call for concerted international and intergovernmental efforts to create a robust, resilient, and sustainable surface ocean observing system.
