Chief Operating Officer at Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), Anna Nitch-Smith, and ISG’s Senior Sustainability Manager, Nicola Forest recently spoke at the Education Estates Net Zero Conference about the challenges and opportunities faced when creating the organisation’s new home: The Entopia Building. During the session, Nicola outlined how it was innovation that drove success. And the innovation doesn’t stop there 💡 When surveyed for ISG’s latest report, CISL highlighted that start-ups that join its CANOPY community do so to access innovation, knowledge, networks and partnership opportunities, which are anchored in the Entopia Building. This inherently means appropriate space is a contributing factor to CISL’s innovation and broader success. Our latest report, “Space to Innovate”, reveals a connection between appropriate space and innovation. Innovation which is known to drive greater levels of productivity. For me, the best innovation comes in the best environments. Entopia strikes again with award winning sustainability credentials dovetailing perfectly with CISL’s Living Lab concept whereby the built environment industry can come together with academics and innovators to try and solve some of the challenges we face. How are we going to decarbonise the UK’s built environment? How are we going to move to a circular economy? How are we going to ensure a just transition? I have no doubt that steps towards achieving these goals will emerge from those that collaborate and innovate within the space provided at Entopia. #SpacetoInnovate #Innovation #Collaboration

🌿 Ecolution's Year in Review: What a remarkable year for the Ecolution team! Our eco-champions have led the charge for change, immersing themselves in various initiatives that showcase our strong dedication to sustainability. Each moment has reinforced our dedication, from the impactful Madiba Day event to the enlightening GBCSA Convention and our unforgettable year-end function. A standout experience was our collaboration with the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Participating in their Global Challenge which allowed us to partner with MBA students, share insights into local sustainability practices, and foster cross-border understanding—a fascinating and insightful endeavour. Tackling the complexities of quantifying emissions in a hybrid work environment, our team has been diligently brainstorming solutions. While progress has been gradual this year, we are gearing up for a comprehensive emissions accounting process guided by The Climate Registry’s Draft GHG Reporting Guidance for Small Businesses – it's a deliberate step toward a greener future. 2023 also marked significant growth as we welcomed Dr. Peta Brom, Dr. Edmund Meyer, Tamzyn Arendse, Wendall Coenraad and Nonhlanhla Mathabela to our family, almost doubling our team's size. Each person’s expertise and passion align seamlessly with our mission, setting the stage for an epic journey ahead. And there's more exciting news! Our efforts in Sustainable Stays are gaining momentum and will receive increased attention and intervention in the new year. This extends beyond accommodation units to our office, where we're determined to embody the Ecolution ethos. Through the challenges and transformations of recent years, the resilience of the Ecolution team has remained a constant inspiration. As we reflect on the milestones of 2023, we express gratitude for the collective efforts of our team and partners. Together, we persist in driving positive change and leaving a lasting impact on the planet. Cheers to a sustainable future and the anticipation of many more eco-achievements in the years to come! 🌿🌍 #Ecolution2023 #SustainableFuture #YearInReview #NewYear #TeamEcolution

Defankle: Democratising Excellent Innovation | Inclusion | Collaboration | Sustainable Systems | Design
Another local event for Defankle Innovation yesterday at the ScotlandIS cluster conference. This time on a panel discussing #Sustainable #Innovation, specifically around product design (although loads of AI chat). Lots of stimulating discussions fuelled by morning session talks from Mike Robinson and Dieter Helm. The conversation was sobering with hints of hopeful optimism. Key takeaways: 🏴🇬🇧The U.K., and in particular Scotland, are doing lots of exciting things to improve the sustainability of technology. Let’s tell these stories more! ⏰💚The very best time to think about sustainability is before you start projects - right at the very beginning (as well as throughout). 💪Understanding the ‘problems’ around sustainability (and, actually, any aspect of innovation) is an opportunity for learning, improved innovation and better business. Welcome problem exploration, don’t brush if off or rush through it too quickly. Sit with it, model it, and act on it. 🌎🌳🤷🏻♀️Sustainability (the 17 United Nations #SDGs) goes beyond carbon. A singular focus consolidates efforts but is also be storing up issues for the future. If you would like to explore understanding the opportunities in your organisation around better innovation, let's have a chat.
