“REMEMBER AND COMMIT” is the theme for this year’s World AIDS Day which marks the 35th remembrance of this event to serve as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma, an opportunity to honor those we have lost, and a rallying cry to commit to working toward a day when HIV is no longer a public health threat. “HIV disproportionately affects members of the LGBTQ+ communities of color, particularly cisgender Black and Latino gay and bisexual, transgender women, and Black women.” “While HIV diagnoses decreased overall and among white men who have sex with men between 2009 and 2018, new cases remained stable among Black/African-American men who have sex with men and increased among young people aged 25-34 and Latino men who have sex with men. While Blacks/African Americans make up only about 13% of the U.S. population, we accounted for 43% of HIV-related deaths in 2018.” As a result, “Researchers suggest that culturally appropriate, tailored interventions may help communities respond to the unique needs of people in—or at the intersections of—these groups.” #healthequitynow #worldaidsday #communityhealth #survivingourblackness #

Looking forward to participating in this conversation. Project 2025 is something we should all be paying attention to. It is not just a political agenda; it is a potential catalyst for deepening health inequities that have been decades in the making. Recognizing that this is just the latest in decades-long attempts to redraw political and health landscapes in this nation is pivotal. In the 70s, after the success of the Civil Rights movement, we saw the radical response of the far-right, with the Southern Strategy. Its utilization of racial tensions to reshape electoral politics and stratify healthcare services lead to detrimental health outcomes for minority and underserved populations. In the 80s, we saw the implementation of Reaganomics and its cuts to social services, leading to reduced access to healthcare, disproportionately affecting communities of color. Join us in this dynamic discussion in July.

February is LGBT+ History Month and this year's theme celebrates the LGBT+ community's contributions to the field of #Medicine. 🌈🔬 Arguably one of the community's biggest impacts was in the development of modern #PatientAdvocacy, a topic we discussed with Neil Bertelsen as he relayed the story of how HIV patients shaped a whole new approach to patient/regulator engagement. "What happened in those last years of the 1980s was something that we hadn’t seen before: a genuine coming together of both the medical community and the patient community, where we became hand-in-glove, basically learning at the same speed." Grindr accused of selling users' data on their HIV status 🛑 The world's biggest dating app for the LGBT community is allegedly sharing users' highly sensitive information for commercial purposes, including the date of their latest HIV test and HIV status. In 2021, Grindr was already fined €5,800,000 by Norwegian authorities for breaking #GDPR as it shared users' data without their consent with third-party companies for advertising purposes. 👉 How long before we realize that these tech giants have no regard for our #intimacy? On this #TransgenderDayofRemembrance, we remember those in the trans, gender fluid and nonbinary community taken from us by violence. We remember our friends and family lost merely for living as their true selves. In our mourning, we renew the call: Trans people deserve a world of safety, where they can live as themselves and pursue their dreams without prejudice.
