As we prepare to celebrate Juneteenth tomorrow, we've been thinking about a recent program with a global tech company. The program focused on honoring and discussing Juneteenth, and imagining how we can all, as individuals and organizations, contribute to a fair and just society. The participants explored Octavia Butler's "The Book of Martha" in small breakout sessions. After the discussion, one participant said: “We talked about how ordinary people are asked to do extraordinary things. That sticks with me as I think about my own commitment to action to drive equity and inclusion.” Learn more about how you can bring Reflection Point to your organization: https://lnkd.in/eWY4fbgb

🎉The highlight of the year 🎉 Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting Roger Wade, the founder of BOXPARK. He kindly encouraged me to explore the opportunity of exhibiting my art in Boxpark, which has left me brimming with excitement. What resonated most during our conversation and my notes from the event was Roger's strong emphasis on emotional intelligence. He stressed the significance of making customers feel special and building trust through intuition and diligence, highlighting that just one mistake can erode that trust. Roger also emphasised the importance of giving back and trusting our emotions, which are invaluable insights. Roger Wade also shared his experiences with Boxpark, recounting initial feedback that labelled it "too black." However, his mission was never to gentrify Boxpark but to preserve its essence, reminiscent of what Shoreditch was before Brexit—a place of global diversity and unity. This discussion was significant to me as a black individual living in London, as it resonated with broader issues like Brexit, racism, and stereotypes, topics that are not often discussed openly. This conversation left us all eager to hear more from him. Roger delved into the concept that a consumer brand's success hinges on content, generating traffic, and fostering meaningful conversations. The major takeaway from our interaction was the exciting prospect of showcasing my physical portfolio to him. This experience reinforced the value of stepping out of one's comfort zone and embracing new opportunities. This journey is about realising a long-held dream: seeing my illustrations on a larger scale, surpassing even what I accomplished during my MA course. The reason behind this ambition is deeply personal. Art, when upscaled, can change the mood and leave a lasting impression. My art has a story behind it; it stems from when I battled my mental health issues during university. I looked around my room, felt its emptiness, and decided to hang a tapestry. That simple act transformed my atmosphere, making me more productive. I dream of doing this on a larger scale to alter moods positively. My choice of vibrant colours, inspired by my experiences and journey with dyslexia, is deliberate. I see and use colours to change perceptions and emotions, creating deep, psychedelic, and funky artwork. These inspirations have driven my artistic journey, and I'm excited to share them with you. Here's a video of Roger exploring my portfolio and a photograph capturing our memorable meeting. #art #emotionalintelligence #diversityinclusion #fashiondesign
