Amazon and Vena Energy reached commercial operations at a new 125 MW solar project in Queensland, Australia. Amazon Solar Project Australia – Wandoan is owned and operated by Vena Energy, and forms part of the wider Wandoan South Project that has been approved for 650 MW of solar and 450 MW of battery storage capacity. “Amazon is on a path to power our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025, and we’re proud to deliver new solar and wind projects in Australia, driving strong sustainability outcomes for our customers and local communities,” commented Ken Haig, Head of Energy and Environment Policy, Asia Pacific & Japan, Amazon Web Services (AWS). “For more than a decade, Amazon has invested billions of dollars in Australia, and today’s announcement demonstrates our continued investment in Australia’s future. As the world’s largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy, our investment in our renewable energy projects, including the Wandoan project, helps deliver clean energy to local grids, creates new jobs, and supports local businesses.” Amazon Solar Project Australia – Wandoan will be capable of producing enough clean energy to power more than 60,000 homes per annum. Since its entry into the market in 2016, Singapore-based Vena Energy has developed an operational portfolio totaling 407 MW. This includes the 100 MW/150 MWh Wandoan South Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which stands as the inaugural utility-scale battery in Queensland and ranks among the largest in Australia. By June 2023, Vena Energy’s renewable energy projects in Australia has expanded to a pipeline totalling c.6 GW, including 128.5 MW hybrid solar-and-energy storage project currently under construction, alongside an additional 1.3 GW of projects in the advanced stages of development. UK-based renewable energy developer Harmony Energy has announced the commencement of construction on France's largest battery energy storage system (BESS), the Cheviré battery project. The Cheviré battery project will be located at the Nantes Saint-Nazaire Harbour, a site previously occupied by the Cheviré power station, which was operational from 1954 to 1986 and relied on coal, gas, and oil. The new facility will have a capacity of 100 megawatts (MW) and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh), making it the country's first large-scale two-hour battery system. The project will utilize Tesla's Megapack and Autobidder technology, which are pivotal in providing real-time trading and operational strategies to maximize revenue and efficiency. The Cheviré BESS is designed to provide critical balancing services to the French electricity grid, facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The system is expected to supply enough electricity to power approximately 170,000 homes for two hours, a capacity greater than the population of the City of Nantes. Andy Symonds, CEO of Harmony Energy France, emphasized the project's significance: "Developing and operating vital battery energy storage facilities across France will lead to enhanced energy security, more affordable energy bills, and the decarbonization of the grid. We are excited to commence building works on our first project". Danish renewables company Better Energy and energy and fibre-optic group Andel have teamed up on a billion-euro investment to build 15 solar energy parks in Denmark between 2024 and 2028 with an overall expected capacity of 2 GWp. The companies said today they have formed a partnership, with each of them to own 50% of the completed portfolio. The partners will start with four projects totalling around 750 MWp that are expected to begin generating electricity in 2024 or 2025. Better Energy chief executive Rasmus Lildholdt Kjaer said the partnership will directly impact the green transition in Denmark and added that “[...] Andel, one of Denmark's largest companies in terms of revenue, will soon be able to call itself one of Denmark's largest co-owners of green energy production on land.” According to Andel’s chief executive, Jesper Hjulmand, wind and solar power on land is the fastest way to expand renewable energy in Denmark. The ambitious agreement with Better Energy will also contribute significantly to Andel's goal of reaching renewable energy production of 10 TWh in 2035, Hjulmand said. Better Energy will manage the projects' development, construction and technical operation. The company explained that the proposed developments will enter the portfolio once they become construction ready. While the power plants will be jointly owned, the parties will market their share of the power generation separately. The initial four parks ready for construction include a 107-MWp scheme near Vedde in Soro municipality, a 187-MWp project near Kong Mose in Vordingborg municipality, a 329-MWp scheme near Radsted and Graenge in Guldborgsund municipality and a 120-MWp site near Salto in Naestved municipality. #renewableenergy #solar #denmark https://lnkd.in/d--B4Jer

Recurrent Energy Secures PPA with GKN Automotive 115 MWp Solar Venture in Spain Recurrent Energy has inked a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with GKN Automotive, a global leader in drive systems. This agreement will kickstart the annual production of approximately 200 GWh of renewable electricity, marking GKN Automotive’s first renewable energy PPA in Europe. Under this agreement, GKN Automotive will source renewable energy from Recurrent Energy’s Rey I Project, a 115 MWp solar PV project located in Seville, Andalucia, Spain. Currently under construction, Rey I is expected to be fully operational by the first half of 2026, with Recurrent Energy owning and operating the project upon completion. Renewable energy investments dominated the landscape in the first half of the year with projects in the sector making up the majority of the P950 billion in projects approved by the Board of Investments. This can be attributed mainly to the clear policy direction that the Marcos administration has set: clean energy will account for 35 percent of the energy mix by 2030 and up to 50 percent by 2040, a far different picture from today where as much as 62 percent of the country’s power requirement is supplied by coal-fired power plants.
