Protect Our Waters: The Fight Against Sewage Pollution Our oceans, canals, and rivers are the lifeblood of our planet, sustaining countless ecosystems, providing drinking water, and supporting livelihoods. Yet, they face an insidious threat: sewage pollution. This silent killer contaminates our waters with harmful pathogens, toxic chemicals, and excessive nutrients, wreaking havoc on marine and freshwater life and posing serious health risks to humans. Why should we care? - Health Risks: Sewage-contaminated water harbours dangerous bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause severe illnesses and even death. Every year, millions of people suffer from waterborne diseases linked to polluted water sources. - Environmental Impact: Excessive nutrients from sewage lead to algal blooms that deplete oxygen in the water, creating "dead zones" where aquatic life cannot survive. This disrupts ecosystems and diminishes biodiversity. - Economic Consequences: The degradation of water quality impacts industries such as fishing, tourism, and recreation, leading to job losses and economic downturns in communities that rely on these waters. - Moral Responsibility: We owe it to future generations to preserve the natural beauty and health of our water bodies. They should inherit a world where clean water is a given, not a luxury. What can we do? 1. Improve Wastewater Treatment: Advocate for and invest in advanced wastewater treatment technologies that remove contaminants more effectively before they reach our waterways. 2. Strengthen Regulations: Support stricter regulations and enforcement against illegal dumping and poor waste management practices. Polluters must be held accountable. 3. Promote Sustainable Practices: Encourage industries and communities to adopt sustainable practices that minimize waste and prevent pollution at the source. 4. Raise Awareness: Educate others about the impacts of sewage pollution and the importance of protecting our water resources. Public awareness is a powerful tool for change. 5. Participate in Clean-up Efforts: Get involved in local clean-up initiatives to help remove trash and pollutants from rivers, canals, and coastal areas. Our waterways are not dumping grounds. They are precious resources that deserve our utmost respect and protection. By taking a stand against sewage and other forms of pollution, we safeguard our health, our environment, and our future. Join the fight to keep our oceans, canals, and rivers clean and vibrant. The time to act is now—before it's too late. PROTECT OUR WATERS, PROTECT OUR FUTURE.

🧮 We love data. Science and data have always been at the core of what we do at The Rivers Trust. In our latest monthly blog for Countryside Jobs Service, our Media & Events Lead Rebecca Duncan explores the importance of having (and making widely available) reliable data on our rivers, and Senior Technical Analyst Josh Jones shares insights on what it's like to be in the Tech Team at The Rivers Trust. 👇
Today we are highlighting how important data is for charity and conservation organisations, and Rebecca Duncan from our featured charity The Rivers Trust, tells us just how much of a difference data can make. They first published a version of the Sewage Map back in 2019 when many people were unaware that there is a legal framework for discharging untreated sewage directly into waterways. Now, fast forward five years, and they have firmly put sewage pollution on the agenda, with their data being used to support campaigns leading to the first official bathing water designations on England’s rivers and has motivated tens of thousands of people to contact their MPs to demand action! On this World Water Day, we join hands with the global community to honor the essential role water plays in fostering peace and prosperity. As we reflect on this year’s theme, “Water for Peace and Prosperity,” let’s remember that access to clean water is a fundamental human right that must be preserved for the well-being of all. Water brings comfort, nourishment, and serenity. It’s a source of peace within our hearts and communities. Let’s cherish and protect it together. Here’s how you can contribute: 1. Practice water conservation in your daily routines. Every drop saved counts towards a sustainable future. 2. Advocate for equitable access to clean water for all, especially vulnerable communities like the elderly. 3. Share your water-saving tips and stories with others. Together, we can inspire change and create a ripple effect of positivity. Let’s unite in our efforts to ensure that water continues to be a source of peace and prosperity for generations to come. #WorldWaterDay #WaterForPeace #WaterForProsperity #WaterConservation #CleanWaterForAll #DivijaOldAgeHome #CommunityAction #SustainableLiving #EveryDropCounts #divijaoldagehome #ahomeforseniorcitizen #doh2024 Show us how you’re making a difference in conserving water! Today is World Ocean Day Down Under. The day is an invitation from Conservation Volunteers Australia for Australians to implement straightforward yet influential actions to aid ocean health and climate stability. In the last three years, the not-for-profit mobilised 11,000 volunteers to locate and remove over 19,000 kgs of litter. That’s more than 380,000 pieces of litter, with 299,300 of those life-threatening plastics taken from beaches and rivers around Australia. At Goolwa PipiCo, we regularly undertake beach clean-ups to clear the accumulated rubbish and debris along the Coorong. We believe the future of Australia’s ocean, wetlands and waterways is in our hands. Help stop litter at its source. Join us and help us #SeaTheChange.

🌳🦋🦡 Today, on International #BiodiversityDay, it’s time to confront the stark reality of wildlife decline in the UK and how we can be #PartOfThePlan to restore it. 🌍 We’re one of the worst countries in the world for nature loss, having lost almost a fifth of our wildlife populations in the last 50 years. 🦡 And the horrific badger cull, development concerns and cruel persecution mean Britain's badgers are threatened with local extinction for the first time in 250,000 years. 🌳 Thousands of people, including #badger champions, celebrities, and almost 200 environment groups from across the UK, are coming together to support nature. 💚 In just one month, the Restore Nature Now march in London will be a pivotal stand against the destruction of our environment. We're demanding that our leaders take decisive action now to save our environment. The future of all species, including ours, depends on what we do right now. 🐾 MARCH from Park Lane to Parliament Square in the biggest environmental rally the UK has ever seen! 🫧 Family Friendly 🤙 Accessible 🌈 Colourful ✨ Powerful We'll be there, will you join us?👇 https://buff.ly/49KTQL2

The Restore Nature Now protest filled my heart with joy. Not just because my face was covered in leafy face paint and spent several hours dancing at the drumbeat and chanting, lending my voice to nature - even though that alone would have made it a very happy day 🍃🧑🏼🎤🥁. On my way to Park Lane in the morning, I was slightly nervous, not sure if many people would come out and march, especially as the sky was cloudy and the light drizzle felt somehow ominous. Shortly after, my nervousness turned into excitement as I took part in a wholesome and beautiful demonstration that united thousands of people who not only CARE, but also are determined to make policy makers care too 👊. In a world where our political leaders choose greed and personal gains over general well-being, we choose to smile to each other and fully display our beautiful colours, together. Even though we’re rightfully furious and sometimes, understandably, fall prey to despair. We still choose to chant and support each other. And it’s this that will make us prevail. That we will continue doing it not only for our benefit but for the benefit of all. Those that we love deeply, and those that we don’t know (yet). Those that agree with us and those that hate our opposing perspective. Those that are not here yet, and those who can’t speak for themselves. The world’s ideological polarisation comes from our inability to understand we are part of something way way bigger. But when we have a glimpse of clarity, there’s no coming back. And we won’t back down. 💪 #RestoreNatureNow WWF-UK | The Wildlife Trusts | RSPB | Friends of the Earth | Animal Rising |Extinction Rebellion | Just Stop Oil | Surfers Against Sewage | Business Declares | Climate Clarity | Greenpeace | Eden Project | Islington Climate Centre | Make My Money Matter | Rewilding Britain | Zero Hour 💚

Young people are aware of the reality for example: more than 80 miles of glacier ice melt every hour, there is no restoration of nature, what was lost is forever, and the urgency of the climate crisis is serious and becoming more and more evident. By 2030-2035, the planet could warm between 1.5 ° C 2 ° C, and 3° C which would cause catastrophic consequences. Just one way to reach the future, apply the new quantum energy technology to stop the pollution that causes the greenhouse effect that is destroying the planet. Thanks, www.empere.net
