Friday…the sun is shining and it’s a beautiful day in the farm… Still waiting for good news on the job hunt but I know it’s coming soon. Until then, I’ll keep smiling, working on the farm, spending time with the kids and enjoying the outdoors. Trying to bring some positivity to the site today. I’m getting tired of the posts where everyone is bashing everyone for everything. It’s getting old and it’s not helpful. Stop doom scrolling…go out and touch some grass. We’re only on this planet for a short time. Make the most of it!! Take time to do something good this weekend…whether it’s for you or someone else. I’m taking the Jeep out on a charity trail ride this weekend…looking forward to some off-road driving and supporting the shop with a cop program for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. I’m sure I’ll also get roped into helping with some riding lessons and farm work too! 😂 What’s everyone looking forward to this weekend?? Oh…I’m also still looking for that next opportunity! Do you want to make the world a better place? Are you ready to walk the talk and look for a position in public interest law? There are lots of open jobs in public service. How do you get hired? What are public interest employers looking for? ·       They seek strong legal and communications skills, of course, but look for other qualities, as well. ·       Especially important is a demonstrated commitment to public service and passion for their cause. This can be shown through volunteer work, community work, involvement in non-profit organizations, even in a non-legal setting. ·       They also seek good interpersonal and leadership skills, and the ability to assume responsibility, which, again, can be shown through your legal and non-legal “extra-curricular” activities. ·       Because most public interest organizations are constantly looking for public money and private donations, grant writing and fundraising experience are a real plus. Many of these “value added” qualities are not usually found on your standard legal resume, so include an addendum of up to a few pages that lists all of your relevant activities, courses taken, speaking engagements and publications. Here’s a brief overview of a career path: Starting Out: You are likely to start out in an entry-level post such as a Tenancy Support Officer, Housing Assistant, Customer Service Adviser, or Housing Administrator. These roles provide a solid foundation in understanding the housing sector. Gaining Experience: As you gain experience within the role, you will be able to advance to become a Housing Officer, Senior Housing Officer or Team Leader, based on experience and training. This involves taking on more responsibilities and managing larger portfolios of properties dealing directly with tenants and local community. Specialization: You could then specialize in an area of housing, Homelessness or Anti-Social Behaviour. Specialization allows you to focus on specific issues within the housing sector, providing targeted support to those who need it most. Management Roles: Progress into management roles, such as a Housing Manager or Director of Housing Services. These roles involve strategic planning, overseeing housing policies, and managing teams.
