Mental health first aid is the support you provide to someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis or is about to experience a mental health challenge. Like physical first aid mental health first aid is a first response that is offered until professional help arrives. It is provided when there is a lack of awareness on the part of the sufferer, or when there is a delay in getting professional help. More importantly research has shown that mental health first aid works. Being a mental health first aider does not make you a counsellor or a therpist and providing mental health first aid is not making a diagnosis. It’s a skill that you learn to support someone who’s in distress. One of the skills required to be a mental health first aider is the ability to listen with empathy, without judgment and without solving the problem. Organisations that equip their employees with the skills to be a mental health first aider are more likely to have a positive work culture and less likely to lose employees to poor mental health. #RecoverNow #employeewellbeing #workplacementalhealth #mentalhealthfirstaid

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID I am pleased to be an accredited Standard Mental Health First Aider. 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year. That means that every one of us is likely to know someone who is experiencing a mental health problem, whether that is a family member, a friend or a colleague. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training program that teaches people how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. It is designed to help individuals provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health issue. While MHFA skills may not directly prevent burnout, they can help individuals recognize the signs of burnout and take steps to manage it. According to Mental Health First Aid Australia, self-care is an important tool to help manage symptoms of burnout and regain physical, spiritual, mental and emotional balance. #mentalhealthfirstaid #selfcare #leadership #colleagues #family #friends #mentalhealthawareness #silverchain

With almost 30 percent of German adults struggling with mental health in a year, it's crucial to raise awareness. We must create a supportive environment. That's why I took part in the MHFA Ersthelfer Mental Health First Aid training and am now a certified Mental Health First Aider. MHFA teaches us to recognize, understand, and assist those facing mental health challenges. We have learned to recognize problems early, find access to those affected, and help others overcome a mental health crisis. We now know how to provide support and information, encourage professional help, and activate additional resources. This training is instructive and important, for the people around us - and for ourselves. It's okay not to be okay. Seeking help is a sign of strength. Check it out and become a Mental Health First Aider yourself. #mhfa #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceWellness #Mentalhealth #Wellbeing #BreakTheStigma Thanks to my employer Vattenfall for making this training possible.

Knowledge is power! Fully understanding a situation can, in some circumstances save lives. Filling the role of being a mental health first aider, gaining mental health awareness, knowing how to speak to someone who is struggling with their mental health and offering support can save lives. When you know how to have a conversation with someone who is struggling, you can support them in a host of ways. Recognising the signs of mental health illness, starting a supportive conversation and signposting to further support shows someone who may be feeling like they are in the dark, struggling for air, scared, alone, hopeless, helpless, that they are seen, they are cared for and that there is hope and a way out. I provide Mental Health First Aid training. We have funding so it’s available at no cost to businesses within Hereford at the moment due to our alliance with Minerva Elite Performance It’s bespoke to each organisation. Many people feel this is as important as having a physical first aider. Take the opportunity for your workplace. #mentalhealthfirstaidtraining #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthfirstaid #savelives
