The first day of the new financial year in Australia and New Zealand (and no doubt elsewhere too), and my LinkedIn feed is once again full of posts by friends and colleagues announcing new promotions.
Firstly, huge congratulations to everyone celebrating this significant and no doubt well-deserved achievement! But for those individuals who missed out this time around, remember - it doesn't mean you're not good at your job, or that you're not valued by your employer. Nor is it a reflection on who you are as a person, either in or out of the workplace.
I hope all managers take a moment to remind their team of that and thank them for their contribution. After all, success is, in many respects, a team effort. That's not to take away from the celebrations or individual achievements, but rather to ensure no one feels left behind, and encourage everyone to keep aiming high.

In the midst of farewells, a senior colleague stirred our collective aspirations. Addressing me directly, he envisioned a future triumph: "Arjun, picture this – the day you conquer the UPSC exam. What a night it was! Last week, I had the pleasure of joining my amazing colleagues at our company's 50th Anniversary Staff Awards Gala. The event was nothing short of spectacular, as everyone came dressed to impress, radiating elegance and charm. It was heartwarming to see the camaraderie and sense of pride as we celebrated half a century of achievements and growth together.
Amidst all the festivities, there was a subtle reminder that resonated deeply with me. As professionals, we all strive for excellence and work tirelessly to achieve our goals. And while compensation is important, the genuine appreciation for our efforts is truly invaluable. Managers, remember that recognizing and acknowledging your team's excellent work is like adding fuel to their motivation. It inspires them to do even more, go above and beyond, and create a positive impact on the organization and their own professional growth. So, let's not forget the power of a simple "thank you" or words of appreciation. Let's foster a culture of recognition and support where everyone feels valued and recognized for the dedication they bring to the table. Missed all chances to share here the experience of winning this Silver Stevie Award for HR Professional of the Year, but I guess it's not too late to wrap it up with everything 2023 meant to me: a journey of learning, growth, and overcoming limits.
Some of the lessons I learned this year are:
1. Growth is a personal journey, but it is strongly influenced by the people around us and the context we choose to be a part of. My career really took off when I decided to leave a context that was no longer helping me grow.
2. Investing in relationships is the key in everything we do. Building trust is hard but worthwhile, as the people around us become companions in facing challenges and celebrating success.
3. It is important to take time to unlearn — letting go of old ways that might hold us back from adapting to the dynamic professional environment and all the changes the workplace faces. Without this, we might resist change, thinking it's not needed when, in reality, it's essential for our growth and the success of the business.
I am thankful for all moments, for all achievements, big or small, but most of all, I am grateful for the incredible people around me.
Here's to a happy and fulfilling new year!

Our unwavering dedication to our employees is evident as we celebrate milestone anniversaries for more than 20 colleagues. Throughout the year, we also saw a lot of exciting changes. We have introduced five brand new roles at Thomas & Company: Tax Manager, Client Marketing & Insights Specialist, Internal Training Specialist, Chief Revenue Officer, and Senior Data Architect. We were able to fill these roles with a combination of our unbelievable internal talent and subject matter experts. Moreover, we are thrilled to share we had an additional 30 internal promotions and progressions in addition to welcoming 28 new hires to the company!
The growth and recognition we've experienced this year stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to our people at Thomas & Company. It is through their dedication and excellence that we are able to extend our commitment to our valued clients. Together, we continue to set new standards of achievement and service excellence.
