The economics of Memorial Day The unofficial start of #summer and a reason for retailers to offer mega-deals (a more serious post will follow tomorrow)... ▪️57% of Americans plan to celebrate (Numerator) ▪️AAA predicts the second highest #travel forecast for Memorial Day since 2000 with 43.8 million people traveling ▪️Food and alcoholic #beverages are the top 2 categories on shopping lists ▪️Beer is the top choice for alcoholic beverages at 76% (those planning to buy alcohol) ▪️Gen Z is twice as likely to choose hard seltzers or canned cocktails (88% vs. 35% avg) while Boomers are more likely to choose wine (51% vs. 42% avg) #Food and #beer prices although starting to stabilize are still up from last year: 🥩Steaks have increased in price 6.5% YoY 🍔Ground beef increased in price 6% YoY 🌭Hot dogs increased in price 7.1% YoY 🍻Beer prices increased in price 3% YoY Later today my husband and I will be taking a trip to Costco Wholesale to shop for the #BBQ we will be hosting. In honor of Women's History Month, and International Women's Day tomorrow, I HAD to share this ad. Talk about a brand doing something not only clever, but meaningful. Here's the story >>> Molson Coors Beverage Company is a sponsor of the PWHL (the Professional Women's Hockey League). And the PWHL had a problem: some of their athlete's hair covered the name on the backs of their jerseys. Molson, whose logo was on the jersey, worked with them to come up with a solution. (And no, they did not ask them to all get hair cuts). Instead, they flipped the placement of the logo and the player name, so that the last names would read below the player numbers. The "See My Name" campaign reads: "Molson is covering our name so hers can be seen." Jerseys go live (you guessed it) on March 8, International Women's Day. What a great example of bucking the status quo (standard jersey design) in favor of a more equitable solution - and what a line..."covering our name so hers can be seen." On this International Women's Day, let's highlight a company that is doing marketing well through ensuring DEI is taken into account. Molson Coors Beverage Company recognized that traditional hockey jerseys designed for men didn't quite translate the same way to women. Since a lot of women have long hair, their names would get obstructed on their jerseys by the hair. So what did Molson do? Move the names on jerseys down. A simple solution, but an impactful one to make sure female athletes don't get shorted on the experience. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐜𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 🍔 Raymond Albert Kroc was born on 5 October, 1902. At 13 he opened his first business, a lemonade stand. This was followed by a music store he opened with two friends. He forged his ID to go to war when he was just 15. This seems to have been the thing to do at that time, as Walt Disney did the same. In fact, that’s how the two met. Shortly after completing his training, the war ended. This was followed by a period of odd jobs and piano playing, before finally settling in at Lily Tulip Cup Co, selling paper cups. A decade later, he started selling milkshake multimixers, which is how he found about this restaurant called McDonald’s. The rest, as we all know, is history. One Lesson from Ray Kroc. It’s never too late. At 59, he bought McDonalds for $2.7 million. His success has become a legendary example in the business world, showcasing that it's possible to achieve groundbreaking success at any stage in life. His story is a powerful reminder that with determination, vision, and hard work, it's never too late to pursue your dreams or change the course of your career.
