For people with persistent pain, it can be hard to start and stick to engaging in physical activity. There might be many hindrances but social factors, like societal expectations, social support and social control, may play a significant role. Clinicians can optimise their prescription of exercise and physical activity for individuals with persistent pain by recognising and harnessing social support around the person; whilst minimising unhelpful societal expectations and negative social control. So, when it comes to encouraging exercise in paincare, don’t just consider “What can they do?” but “Who can they do it with?” You can explore exercise prescription and physical activity in paincare more by registering for the “Prescribing Exercise” module coming up in May! Navigating the complexities of lymphedema can indeed feel overwhelming, yet it's crucial to remember that no one needs to navigate this journey in isolation. The combined power of education and support plays an instrumental role in effectively understanding and managing lymphedema. Engaging with a lymphedema support group offers a unique connection to a community of individuals who genuinely comprehend the nuances of your journey. These groups extend beyond emotional support, providing practical advice, tips, and shared experiences that illuminate the path forward. Furthermore, immersing oneself in educational resources about lymphedema grants the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions regarding care and lifestyle adjustments. Knowledge serves not only as a tool of empowerment but also as a beacon of hope, guiding individuals towards a life where lymphedema can be managed more effectively. I encourage us to harness the strength found within our community and the clarity that education brings. If you have encountered valuable resources or support groups that have aided your lymphedema management, please share them. Together, we can cultivate a more informed and supportive lymphedema community, reinforcing the idea that together, we are stronger. #LymphedemaSupport #LymphedemaAwareness #KnowledgeIsPower #CommunityStrength #HealthEducation #Empowerment #TogetherWeCan

Are you maximizing the full potential of your #PhysicalTherapy program? The ECU Parkinson's Disease Program is a fantastic example of how PT can significantly improve patients' quality of life. This initiative, led by a physical therapist and exercise psychologist, utilizes effective rehabilitation exercises to enhance life experiences for 80 participants so far. But more funding is needed to expand its reach. As a PT professional, this makes me wonder – how many more lives can we impact if given enough resources and community support? Do you feel there's room for growth in your own program as well? Maybe it's time to seek expert insights on sustainable business models and strategies for expansion. Feel free to reach out to me, Jim Tomasin, MSPT, at any time. #PhysicalTherapy #CommunityHealth #HealthcareManagement.
