Let’s go Grizzlies! Congratulations to Oakland University on the impressive renovation of South Foundation Hall! This project enhances 55,000 square feet of existing space, reconfiguring the building to increase the number of classrooms and optimize room usage with current teaching methods and technology. Additionally, a 25,000-square-foot expansion will extend the building’s capacity, accommodating the diverse needs of programs across campus. A key feature of this renovation is the integration of Chilled Beams from Price Industries. Here’s why Chilled Beams are an ideal choice for Oakland University: + Energy Efficiency: Chilled beams use water to transfer energy, offering higher efficiency due to water's superior heat capacity, aligning with the university’s sustainability goals. + Silent Operation: With their quiet operation, chilled beams ensure a distraction-free learning atmosphere. + Flexibility and Comfort: They offer precise temperature control, enhancing comfort in varied classroom settings. + Reduced Maintenance: Fewer moving parts in chilled beam systems reduce maintenance requirements and costs. We are proud to collaborate with Rolls Mechanical, Stantec, and Frank Rewold & Sons Inc. on this project. Collaborators: + Architect/Engineer: Stantec + General Contractor: Frank Rewold & Sons Inc. + Customers: Rolls Mechanical + Owner: Oakland University + Location: Rochester, MI

Dick Fosbury and the most successful flop of all times What a privilege to be in Paris during these phenomenal #JOPARIS2024! While attending an athletics event in the #StadedeFrance, I reflect on the legacy of #DickFosbury (1947-2023) and his gold medal in the high jump in Mexico 1968 Olympic games. Fosbury pioneered a revolutionary technique of high jump that allowed him to win the gold medal and that was totally different from the prevalent straddle technique of that time. At start, it was ironically called “the Fosbury flop” looking at the way he landed on his back, but it was all but a flop! Over time, most athletes adopted and improved his technique that is since then prevalent in the high jump. For that reason, #DickFosbury is considered one of the most influential athletes of all times. What I find amazing is how he developed this revolutionary technique during his college years: he found lots of coaches advising him to jump “the orthodox way” and focusing on teaching him the straddle technique. He kept practising both ways, until the day that results made clear that he performed better using his own style. His coach Berny Wagner gave up trying to correct him and began helping him to refine his technique. The path to the Olympic gold medal was cleared and the biggest revolution in high jump had just started. Have a look: https://lnkd.in/e3mq3ADm What can we business coaches and executives learn from Dick Fosbury and his sport coaches? Do we have the courage to let our talents unleash their potential in the way they prefer, or do we force them to adopt “the established way”? Do we have the objectivity to assess performance and recognise when somebody has better results using a different approach and not doing as we are used to? Are we humble enough to let our beliefs aside and truly support them to refine their innovation? Performance, in sports and business, comes from hard work, autonomy and trust. Bay Head Barnacle. Just trying to figure it all out by searching for a cosmic connection between nature, my pictures of the sunrise in particular, and the stock market for that day. Hope you enjoy.
Records may be recorded at the finish line, but they are made over the course of the race - murph If you want to run a PB (personal best) in a marathon, you have to set the pace at mile one and then maintain that pace over the course of the race. You cannot decide after mile 20 that you are now going to pick up the pace, it is already too late. Of course some miles are going to be slower than others, but with discipline, you can even out the average over the course of the race. The market has run a stellar race so far this year and is rounding Columbus Circle with a personal best there for the taking. The journey to get here was not easy and required crossing many Walls of Worry (Verrazzano-Narrows bridge, Pulaski Bridge, Queensboro Bridge) in the form of blistering high inflation, interest rate cramps, Geopolitical unrest, wars on a few continents to name a few. But the market showed the grit, determination, and discipline required to be in control of its own destiny. Futures are basically flat this morning as is Central Park South. All the market has to do now is dig deep as it comes off Central Park South and heads up that final hill to the finish line at Tavern on the Green. Regardless of the final outcome, everyone has been a winner this year, so a huge shout out to the market for a race well run. Make it a great day.
