Our First Nation’s People and Place Strategy is a bold and and intentional evolution from our previous Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). “We realised we wanted and needed to be transformative in our strategy," said Gavin Mackey - Uniting Director First Nations Strategy and Outcomes. "Our people were also calling for deep, true First Nations leadership in ways that they themselves defined, which led to the development of our First Nations People and Place Strategy." Together with First Nations representation at every level of our leadership, we are striving to set an example, and share our learnings, for other community services organisations. This involves acknowledging our responsibility to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and continually improve how we support First Nations people and communities in achieving meaningful change through self-determination. 🔴 🟡 ⚫ #WeAreUniting #Aboriginal #FirstNations #Indigenous

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue. Now more than ever, we need reconciliation. At XEd Space, we believe leadership development should be human-centric, purpose-driven and results-focused, and we are passionate about working with First Nations leaders. Our goal is to accelerate their development, helping them to make a tangible difference in their worlds. Not only is this part of our strategy, it’s an important one of our values. Afrocentrism as a leadership philosophy focuses on community-centered, inclusive, and empowering approaches. Here are some key principles: 1. Collective leadership: Emphasizes shared responsibility and collaborative decision-making. 2. Community empowerment: Prioritizes the growth and development of the community. 3. Interconnectedness: Recognizes the interconnectedness of individuals and the community. 4. Mutual respect: Fosters respect for diverse perspectives and experiences. 5. Emphasis on people: Prioritizes people's well-being and development over profit or power. 6. Holistic approach: Considers the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of individuals and the community. 7. Decentralized power: Distributes power and decision-making authority among community members. 8. Cultural relevance: Grounds leadership in African cultural values and traditions.. Some notable Afrocentric leaders include: 1. Nelson Mandela (South Africa) 2. Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana) 3. Julius Nyerere (Tanzania) 4. U.S. Embassy Mexico City is supporting women-led organizations to #EndGBV. By nominating local leaders for International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) women on the front lines of working with survivors can discuss their experiences and share best practices with #GBV advocates in the United States. Gender-based violence is a global issue, and learning exchanges are critical to develop a global response. #16DaysofActivism

Honoring Indigenous Peoples' Day: A Reflection on Leadership and Stewardship Today, as we celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day, we pay tribute to the remarkable leadership and wisdom showcased by Native communities over time. Genuine leadership entails listening, learning, and guiding with humility—principles deeply embedded in Indigenous cultures and teachings. In the words of Wilma Mankiller, the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, "The secret of our success is that we never, never give up." This unwavering resilience and dedication to community epitomize the type of leadership we should all strive for. On our leadership journey, it is crucial to uplift those around us, honoring each individual's unique experiences and strengths. This mirrors the wisdom found in Proverbs 11:14: "Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety." Let us take this day to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Indigenous peoples and pledge to lead with empathy, wisdom, and a spirit of service. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #Leadership #WilmaMankiller #Resilience #Empathy #Proverbs #Community

Creating a Legacy of Sustainable Leadership in Reshaping Our Community and Ethnic Culture 👩🏫 💪 As we celebrate Heritage Day in South Africa today, the 24th of September, we are reminded of the rich diversity that forms the backbone of our country. A key and inherent feature of Indigenous African culture is leadership; regardless of the ethnic group to which an individual belongs, leadership is a consistent and guiding force 💯 From family structures to broader communities, leadership manifests in various forms based on tradition, wisdom, and values. Each group fosters its own unique type of leaders, shaping communities through their knowledge, experience, and ability to unite 🎯 However, it is long overdue that the conceptualization of leadership undergoes serious transformation in our communities to measure up to the society of today. The challenges we face require leaders who are adaptive, inclusive, and forward-thinking, in order to truly meet the needs of modern society while staying rooted in cultural heritage. This Heritage Day, let us honor the legacy of sustainable leadership that has been passed down through generations. By embracing this, we can continue to reshape our communities and nurture an inclusive future where every voice and culture is valued. #HeritageDay #SustainableLeadership #Diversity #AfricanCulture #CommunityLeadership #Legacy #LeadershipTransformation
