It was a pleasure to join "Turning it up with H₂ in Aviation" by Zukunft Gas. Together with Volker Ratzmann from DHL and Nina Leuenberger from NOW GmbH, we discussed the importance of decarbonizing the aviation sector and the role of various value streams, such as hydrogen, SAF (bio or synthetic), and more efficient aviation practices. A big thank you to the 100+ listeners who engaged with us! (proving that decarbonization can be more exciting than a quick nap after lunch 😉)
The current market momentum is certainly creating a perfect storm for innovation and growth in this sector:
➡️ 2-3% of global CO₂ emissions are connected to aviation, while the majority of humanity is not flying (mostly limited to wealthier countries).
➡️ The SAF market is projected to reach over $800 billion by 2050.
➡️ The regulatory landscape is shifting rapidly, particularly in the EU and USA.
However, significant funding is still required to scale up SAF production, and this is where governments need to step up their efforts. For example, by offering state offtake agreements, they can reduce the risks for investors and make the business case for SAF projects much more appealing. Green fuels are a German and European success story - we have the know-how, processes, and funding to innovate in this market globally. But if we don't bring more projects to life faster and prove economic viability, we risk losing the race, just as we did with solar.
At Greenlyte Carbon Technologies, we're making sustainable aviation more viable than ever! Our combined DAC + hydrogen technology significantly lowers the cost of CO₂ and H₂ supply, dramatically reducing the cost of green fuels. 🌱
