Today, as we find ourselves in another hurricane season, ViviendasLeón would like to reflect on the experience of last year’s Hurricane Julia’s impact in Nicaragua. The damages reported by the #rural and #indigenous #communities of #Goyena and #Troilo were numerous, ranging from partial damage to total crop loss and partial damage to houses. The communities of Goyena and Troilo experienced an extended period without electricity service due to damaged electrical transmission lines. Despite the damage caused by the storm, the farmers we trained were able to recover and restore their farms. This stands as a testament to the power of #resilience and proactive measures taken in the communities of Goyena and Troilo. Through our collective efforts and unwavering determination, we are better prepared to assist our farmers and safeguard their resilience. To learn more about our work, please visit our website here: https://lnkd.in/gvCvhE9C To help support our mission to eliminate rural poverty in Central America, please visit our donations page: https://lnkd.in/ggHJfWqF Who We Are? ViviendasLeón Is a non-governmental (NGO) and non-profit organization, located in the cities of León, Nicaragua and Sololá, Guatemala, whose objective is to work with rural communities to eradicate poverty. We intend to create an impact on families by providing training, farming, water security and economic development, to improve the quality of life of each family.

Wildfires in Maui. Hurricane Idalia in Tampa. Tropical storm Hilary in California. They are just a few of the events in today’s era of #naturaldisasters, with 2023 poised to be a record year for US climate and weather catastrophes. While 61% of US companies have raised their total philanthropy giving for natural disasters levels in recent years, fewer than half are conducting planning exercises to prepare for future disasters. 🌀 🔥 Read our new report, produced in collaboration with E4E Relief, to learn more about Corporate America’s #disasterphilanthropy practices: https://lnkd.in/e6SbGGeP

As many of us know, Hurricane Idalia made landfall early Wednesday on Florida’s Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm (130 mph winds). It was powerful hurricane to make landfall in the Big Bend region in more than 125 years. The storm has caused higher than normal water levels in some areas and has left over 300,000 customers in Florida and Georgia without power. Due to the collaborative and proactive nature of our corporate and nonprofit partners, Good360 is able to help local nonprofits with typically needed items like shelter, tarps, tents, and many others, to help the most vulnerable survivors get the resources and shelter needed in the early stages of recovery. We call it prepositioning, and it's an essential component of our response in disaster recovery. We have prepositioned products and resources in Jacksonville, Ft. Myers, West Palm Beach, Miami, as well as Atlanta, GA. Items are stored in our network of nearly 30 shared warehouses strategically in areas likely to be impacted. Over the next few days, governmental and nonprofit organizations will begin to conduct damage assessments and share more information about actual product gaps to determine what is needed. We will continue to work with our governmental and nonprofit partners in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina to identify and close any product need gaps throughout the recovery process. To learn more about why prepositioning is so important, to donate, or to become a partner, check out https://lnkd.in/eihuT5w #resiliency #diasterrecovery #hurricanepreparedness #idalia

Widespread and ongoing wildfires this summer across large portions of #Canada, #California, and the island of #Maui have caused irreparable damage. Meanwhile, Hurricane Hilary made landfall in Southern California earlier this month and Hurricane Idalia is battering parts of Florida and Georgia with record-breaking rainfall and flooding. Tens of thousands of families across North America have suffered devastating impacts from these catastrophic events, including many of our members. If you have been affected by these or another natural disaster, your union has resources to help—including grants from our Pilots for Pilots (P4P) program and other personal support through our confidential Pilot Peer Support hotline. Please remind your colleagues that these invaluable programs are available to all ALPA members. P4P grants are available for ALPA members and their dependents. P4P is a tax-exempt charity that covers the immediate, extraordinary expenses that follow widespread, catastrophic events and helps expedite the recovery process, allowing ALPA families to return their lives to some semblance of normalcy. Stress, anxiety, and other depression-like symptoms are common reactions after a disaster. ALPA’s PPS program is here to take your call. PPS is a support network that connects you with a trained pilot peer to talk about any personal or professional problems you may be experiencing. PPS volunteers listen and offer confidential, nonjudgmental support. Peers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Learn more about P4P, including how to apply for a grant or how to donate to the relief fund: https://bit.ly/3qRW1w0 Learn more about PPS: https://bit.ly/3YV8njm #HurricaneHilary #HurricaneIdalia #Maui #Florida #Georgia #Hurricane #MauiFires

Hurricane Idalia made landfall early Wednesday on Florida’s Gulf Coast as a powerful Category 3 storm and has been linked to at least two deaths. It's the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Big Bend region, the nook between the panhandle and peninsula, in more than 125 years. The storm is causing flooding in some areas and has left over 400,000 customers in Florida and Georgia without power. Wherever your park is located in the country, you can do something to help your fellow campground owners and their communities. Donate to the ARVC Foundation's Disaster Relief Fund, which will go directly to campgrounds affected by these natural disasters here: https://bit.ly/3tyYn0Q If your park is affected by a natural disaster, you are eligible for funds from the ARVC Foundation's Disaster Relief Fund. Parks DO NOT need to be National ARVC members to apply for funds. Access the application here: https://bit.ly/3xVoge2

Supporting customers for their industrial needs might be what we do, but supporting the PEOPLE in need in our local communities is who we are! Countless families have been impacted by Hurricane Beryl in the Houston area, including some of our own team who sustained damage to their homes. With our headquarters on the Gulf Coast, we know all-too-well the devastation that comes with a direct hit from a Hurricane, and the messy aftermath it leaves in its wake for years to come. But even in tragedies there are always those who rise up to the challenge. Often, the worst times can bring out the best in people. 💪 As Mr. Rogers would say: "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." Which brings us to the point of this post... ➡Houston, we're asking you to help us help the helpers! If you know of a local organization or non-profit that's doing great things to help in the aftermath of Beryl, please drop their names or tag them in the comments below. In addition to providing them with some well-deserved recognition, we'd like to reach out to some of them and see how EcoTech can help them! (Particularly those smaller organizations that don't come with bottomless budgets.) If you just want to give a shout-out to an individual you know who has been helping, please do that as well! #hurricaneberyl #beryl #houstonstrong #houston #houstontx #texas #prayforhouston #houstonhelp #nonprofits

As a company deeply committed to Latin America, we remain dedicated to raising awareness and gathering support for those suffering from the impact of Hurricane Otis in Mexico. While its news coverage is gradually fading, we cannot forget the profound suffering endured by the people of Acapulco, Guerrero. The hurricane's fury demolished critical infrastructure, cut off basic services, and tragically resulted in casualties and missing individuals. The situation is dire, and the people of Acapulco are enduring unimaginable hardships. Due to the severe lack of food, water, and essential supplies, the desperation of the affected communities has escalated. Vandalism has ravaged the commercial stores in Acapulco to the point where there are no longer any shops to purchase much-needed provisions. We ask you to continue donating and sending your thoughts and prayers to those affected by Hurricane Otis in Mexico. Your generosity and compassion can make a significant difference in the lives of those who have lost so much.
