What's the best day and time to post on LinkedIn?
This post is a summary of my blog post The Best Day and Time to Post on LinkedIn? It’s Personal—Forget the Averages, which I published on my Webmemo blog.
Check out the blog if you're not sure how to extract your own performance data from LinkedIn or how to have it analyzed, since LinkedIn doesn't provide analysis by day.
The Importance of Day-of-Week Analysis
Understanding which day of the week yields the best performance for your LinkedIn posts can significantly impact your content strategy. Here's why:
1. Audience Availability: Your target audience may be more active on certain days, influencing when they're most likely to see and engage with your content.
2. Competition for Attention: Different days may have varying levels of content saturation, affecting how easily your post stands out in users' feeds.
3. Tailored Strategy: By identifying your best-performing days, you can schedule your most important content when it's likely to have the greatest impact.
How to Analyze your Personal Performance: Impressions vs. Engagement Rates
To get a comprehensive view of post performance, it's essential to look at both impressions and engagement rates:
- Impressions: The number of times your post is displayed, regardless of clicks or interactions.
- Engagement Rate: The percentage of people who interact with your post (likes, comments, shares) out of those who see it.
These metrics often tell different stories. A post might have high impressions but low engagement, or vice versa depending on the day of the week.
Understanding both helps create a balanced content strategy.
This means that for my profile I should probably publish on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
But that's for the average of my very irregular posting schedule:
Could there be differences between my active and inactive phases?
High-Frequency vs. Low-Frequency Posting Phases
Another crucial aspect of timing analysis is understanding how your posting frequency affects performance. By comparing high-frequency posting phases with low-frequency phases, you can uncover valuable insights:
1. Content Saturation: Does frequent posting lead to audience fatigue or increased engagement?
Recommended by LinkedIn
2. Algorithm Impact: How does LinkedIn's algorithm respond to consistent vs. sporadic posting?
3. Audience Behavior: Do your followers engage differently during high frequency periods than when you are not active?
4. Content Quality vs. Quantity: Does posting more frequently affect the quality and performance of individual posts?
In my inactive phases the day of the impressions is determined by LinkedIn's algorithm alone.
They preferably publish my posts on Mondays with the highest engagement rate on Wednesdays. Then I should probably test publishing my posts on Monday instead of Wednesday, too.
Actionable Insights for Your LinkedIn Strategy
By analyzing these factors, you can:
1. Identify your optimal posting days for maximum reach (impressions) and engagement.
2. Determine if increasing your posting frequency could boost your overall performance.
3. Understand how much you need to increase frequency to see meaningful improvements (e.g. a 10% boost in key performance indicators).
Remember, while data analysis provides valuable insights, it's equally important to consider the quality and relevance of your content.
The best LinkedIn strategies combine optimal timing with compelling, valuable content that resonates with your audience.
