“I enjoy everything about baking - using my hands to mix the flour, water, salt and starter for making sourdough,” said Claudio de Sá Martins, Site Manufacturing Manager in Taboão da Serra – located in São Paulo, Brazil. “I even enjoy the different steps in the process, such as folding and shaping the bread dough, and the bulk fermentation. Baking requires your focus all the time, so it’s a great activity for people with anxiety issues. And after baking, you get rewarded with the wonderful aromas of freshly baked bread, not to mention the taste. It is priceless.” During the Covid pandemic, Claudio teamed up with a group of other bakers to produce bread for those in need. He is particularly proud of one instance when he baked 47 loaves of banana bread in just two days. When he’s not busy in the kitchen, Claudio manages site operations for the manufacturing of Advanced Materials’ products sold into the Aerospace, Power, and Coatings markets. "I often compare our work at the site to what happens in the kitchen," Claudio explained. "Just like baking, if you don't follow the correct procedures and measure ingredients accurately, you might end up with poorly or over-fermented bread. The same principle applies in chemical manufacturing. It's essential to adhere to the precise recipe for a material and pay close attention to processes, including wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE). If you've ever tried to take bread out of the oven with your bare hands, you'd quickly realize that 450°F (230°C) is very hot!" Claudio explained that every time a new product is introduced at the site, it undergoes extensive process safety studies, followed by testing in the pilot plant, before finally being moved to the main production area. "Safely producing a high-quality product, whether it’s at a manufacturing site or in the kitchen, brings a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment," Claudio remarked. #WeAreHuntsman #Huntsman

"My passion for Chinese Opera can be traced back to my childhood, when my parents often took me walking over ten kilometers across our countryside to watch the touring performance given by professional troupes for Chinese New Year. This passion guided me to start self-learning of the art form through a music streaming app over a decade ago," said Wenguang Liu, Area Leader for Huntsman's Panyu, China site production team. Chinese opera is more than singing – it's equal parts dance, acrobatics, martial arts, literature, and the spoken word delivered in a falsetto recitative. For self-learners like Wenguang Liu, they can only practice vocal part. "In order to enunciate forcefully, breathe properly, and infuse emotions into each note, I usually practice 2-3 hours every day after work and won't tire to hone a 4 minute piece of Chinese Opera for two years until it's perfect. Chinese Opera has become the main entertainment of my after-work life and my primary emotional outlet. “My dream is to popularize Chinese Opera to netizens one day on livestreaming platforms. I feel that I have the responsibility to pass on our traditional culture to the young generation especially at a time when this particular art form is in danger of disappearing or appealing primarily to middle-aged and older audiences. My 4-year-old daughter has become my loyal fan, sometimes she can even hum some fragments. "There's an old saying in Chinese, 'One minute on the stage takes 10 years of training off the stage'. I believe that one day I will make a breakthrough in the art form after accumulating enough vocal skills through a lot of practice. This lesson applies not only to our hobbies, but also to our careers. It's not enough to just show up to work and go through the motions, but we must invest in our training, connect to our teams, and commit to improve our work minute by minute to get the best results. "Repairing and refurbishing broken items in my spare time is not just a challenge I relish, but my personal commitment to sustainability," said Philippe Christou, Head of Environment & Technology Intelligence for Huntsman Advanced Materials. Recently, we were inspired by a story from Ran Nelissen and his friends, who encountered a significant challenge during their motorcycle trip. Here’s how our Araldite® Metal product saved their adventure. "A few months ago, my friends and I set out on what was supposed to be an exhilarating motorcycle journey from the Netherlands to the All-Road Motorcycle Festival in the UK," shares Ran. "We planned to turn this trip into a week-long exploration of Europe’s Trans Euro Trail and the UK's picturesque yet rugged trails." Their adventure took an unexpected turn on the second day when one of their bikes suffered serious engine case damage due to an encounter with a concrete block hidden in the grass trail. Faced with the potential of spoiling their trip, they needed a quick and reliable fix.
