Great to be back delivering GIRI training BAM UK & Ireland with Christopher Bedford. We ran our GIRI (Get it Right Initiative) sessions at the Kill offices training rooms, with 25 engaged participants from the frontline supervision teams. It was brilliant to see such energy and commitment in the room. First of many GIRI SM-02 Reducing errors on construction sites - Part two: Planning skills completed in Ireland this week. This session is the second of a two-part course. This session enables participants to: relate the root causes of error to their daily work; understand the importance of effective planning in order to avoid error during construction; apply various techniques to effectively capture project information; develop and validate practical plans; demonstrate effective communication of design information and construction plans; develop an individual action plan to improve planning and avoid error. Thanks to the Supervisors and managers who are directly responsible for the delivery of construction work on site for attending this workshop. As a result of attending this course the participants will have an improved understanding of error, in relation to their work, having the ability to: Explain the steps required to effectively plan for construction, in order to avoid error. Identify common causes of error during planning. Apply various techniques to effectively capture project information. Explain various techniques to develop and validate plans for construction. Demonstrate techniques to effectively communicate design information and construction plans. Participants have now developed individual action plans identifying key measures they will take in their daily work to improve planning, and thereby avoid error. Using GIRI "Building it in your Brain" and "press pause to avoid error" will help us all reduce error to ensure a behavioral change in driving a progressive approach to quality in delivering measurable and tangible benefits. Alongside me delivering was Gavin Avery and it was brilliant to see such energy and commitment in the room. Massive thanks to The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) Ian Mahoney and BAM UK & Ireland for continuing to champion this training and invest in their people. A brilliant two days delivering GIRI (Get it Right Initiative) SM01 (Supervisors and Managers) IN01 (Interface Management) courses with Danny Cunningham and Thomas Churchill to our team on the Environment Agency CDF BAM UK & Ireland We’ve already had feedback through email 📧 which shows us that people are coming out of the courses thinking 🤔 on how they can improve the industry. A conversation was had this morning about the GIRI training programme that it isn’t training it’s an experience and a thought 💭 provoking one in that. Following the success of our first leadership training open course last year, we are organising open courses for both the Supervisory & Management Skills training and Training Across Interfaces in March in London. The open course format allows individuals to book onto the training. Previously, this has only been available to companies booking training for their staff. As part of the GIRI (Get It Right Initiative), funded by CITB, we are driving real change in how the construction industry approaches learning, safety, and collaboration. ✅ 9.5/10 average recommendation score – a testament to the effectiveness of engaging, high-quality training. ✅ A key takeaway: “Pause to avoid errors” – a simple but powerful shift in mindset that’s helping teams reduce mistakes and improve site safety. ✅ Interactive learning, like the LEGO exercise, is proving invaluable in making lessons stick and changing how we think about problem-solving.
