  • 🚀 World Hydrogen Congress in Copenhagen 🚀 This week FutureGrid Programme Manager, Tom Neal and his team have attended the World Hydrogen Congress as part of World Hydrogen Week! As part of this exciting week he reported a buzz amongst the hydrogen industry about how hydrogen use could become a reality.🌱 Tom was there as a guest speaker to share our plans for transitioning Great Britain’s NTS, which received considerable interest and excitement, with many commenting about how far this had advanced over recent years. Listening to other speakers, Tom has given feedback to the team that other countries are moving quickly on this agenda and was a great opportunity to learn from each other.🤝 The overarching Consensus is that Hydrogen was a reality and that developing the evidence base for operating with hydrogen was key to its implementation. He also hosted the Hydrogen academic insights session in the Innvoation Zone, hearing from Sara Walker about "Hydrogen and whole energy systems thinking" and Iva Ridjan Skov about "NordicH2ubs - H2 in energy system models”.🎤 Later, he took part in the “Repurposing and Retrofitting of Gas Networks for H2 and CO2 transport" panel moderated by Raphael Schoentgen and joined by Sara Piskor. This session was jam packed with questions that they just about covered in the time given – this was a great response from the audience and shows how much interest there is in the topic.✅ 🔗For more updates follow Tom and National Gas Transmission on LinkedIn.🔗 #worldhydrogenweek #conference #speaker #innovation

  • 📡FutureGrid Compression and Deblending Webinars!📡   We’re due to publish the 2024 progress reports for our FutureGrid Phase 2 Compression and Deblending projects and we’re holding two webinars to share more information!🎧   Join us to hear more about the challenges we are addressing and the progress we’ve made so far this year!🚀   The Compression project is testing the performance of gas compressors with hydrogen, to develop an asset fleet that's fit for a net zero future.🌱 The project aims to demonstrate that the existing fleet can be modified cost effectively, to work with hydrogen.👨🔬   The Deblending project is helping the UK prepare for the transition to cleaner, greener energy, by demonstrating how hydrogen can be transported through the National Transmission System for use in vehicle refuelling. The project covers multiple use cases and will showcase the full deblending process, from separating blended transmission gases using electrochemical processes, through to refuelling hydrogen vehicles. 🚚    ✅Compression Webinar - Tuesday 22 October 1:30pm.   Sign up here to register your interest: https://lnkd.in/eFTBb3M8    ✅Deblending Webinar - Thursday 24 October 9am.   Sign up here to register your interest: https://lnkd.in/eGMmgW2D    Spaces for both webinars will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so register now to be sure you don’t miss out!   #futuregrid #innovation #engineering #webinar

  • 🍜 Top Notch Hydrogen Cooked Lunch! 🍽   Last week, Innovation Strategy Manager, Dave Hardman attended the Hydrogen Networking Event and the launch of 'Hydrogen Solutions by National Gas Metering' which was held at Tyseley Energy Park.💚 The event was a fantastic opportunity to get together with hydrogen industry leads to discuss the potential of decarbonising a commercial setting. Much of the work has been completed on the hydrogen future for domestic and heavy industry, but to date there has been little focus on decarbonising a commercial technology park.🌱 He was lucky enough to be served, in his words, 'a fabulous lunch' which had all been prepared on the hydrogen powered commercial kitchen appliances onsite from Falcon Foodservice Equipment, as well as being given an interesting site tour.🥗 Dave said 'there is fantastic scope at Tyseley for a decarbonised demonstration of a commercial technology park with the hydrogen produced on site being used for heating, commercial appliances and in business processes nearby'. Follow us for more delicious updates!😋 #HydrogenSolutions #FoodserviceEquipment #NGM

  • ✈ Conference Reflections from Senior FutureGrid Engineer ✈ Dr. Lisa Witty, a Senior Engineer on the FutureGrid Deblending Hydrogen for Transportation project, has recently returned from two events: European Transport Conference in Antwerp and, closer to home, Cenex Expo 2024 at the Milbrook Proving Ground. As always, conference findings are shared within the team and we thought it was a good opportunity to showcase the types of stakeholder activity we undertake as a team and as a business.🤝 Lisa presented at the main plenary of Cenex, sharing her thoughts on the future of the gas grid, as hydrogen becomes part of the future energy landscape. This led to interesting discussions about the energy transition and how the future of hydrogen transportation may develop with assistance from National Gas for refuelling and hydrogen supply.⛽   Lisa, a hydrogen expert said how great it was to see a variety of hydrogen transportation options, with vehicles from Wrightbus, Toyota Motor Corporation and Vauxhall Motors Ltd as well as opportunities to discuss refuelling, challenges and the future with a wide range of the hydrogen transportation supply chain members.   The ETC 2024 event had a greater focus on technical papers, with an academic and consultant viewpoint of transportation strategies for Europe. She saw that decarbonisation was seen as a real challenge across many of the different transport methodologies, with hydrogen not yet seen as part of the solution. Despite the omission of hydrogen from the proceedings, there were excellent opportunities to network with a wide range of technical abilities and interests including economics, decarbonisation, social-politic and engineering backgrounds bringing hydrogen to the forefront of the discussions. She shared with the team that the two events were opposite in approach and opinion to each other with one being led by academia and one being led by suppliers, and this has generated wider discussions at National Gas about how we engage different types of stakeholders in the future. Follow us for more updates on our journey to decarbonise the NTS!🌱 #hydrogen #conference #decarbonisation #cleanpower #innovation

  • 👨🔬Funding Secured to Explore Quantum Technology!👩🔬 We are pleased to announce that a £160 million bid submitted in collaboration with UK Quantum Technology Research Hub in Sensing, Imaging and Timing has been approved by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).👏 From December 2024, we, as industrial partner of the bid, aim to investigate, amongst other things, using quantum sensors to identify fugitive gas emissions and monitoring underground infrastructure. One of the key aspects that our Innovation team is interested in is using the cutting edge technology to potentially detect hydrogen which has historically been quite hard to do. Read more about the Quantum Hubs programme at the link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/emGszEhY 🔗Follow us on LinkedIn to see how this and other projects evolve!🔗
