U.S. EPA CLEARS SOUTH32 HERMOSA PROJECT’S KEY STATE AIR QUALITY PERMIT Following ADEQ’s issuance of the Class I Air Permit authorizing construction earlier this summer, the EPA just completed a 45-day review and voiced no objections to the permit. The ADEQ-backed permit clears the way for construction and operations activities, on the project’s privately held land, as Hermosa continues to engage with public health organizations to safeguard community and worker health. As the final permit outlines, Hermosa’s proposed operations must adhere to all state and federal air quality standards. Based on third-party, agency accepted modeling, air emissions from proposed operations at the Hermosa project site are projected to have no adverse impacts on air quality in Patagonia or other surrounding communities as contemplated by the Clean Air Act. “Because we have the opportunity to build Hermosa from the ground up, we are using advanced technology, world-class engineering and industry best-practices to enhance safety for the surrounding community when it comes to air quality,” said Pat Risner, President of South32 Hermosa. About this valuable program, fund advisory panel member and South32 Financial Analyst Steve Switalski shares: “Living locally, I can see the difference in the community and know that I’ve been a part of making things better. 📸 Some great pics from our annual back to school events in Nogales and Rio Rico ✏️🍎 Every year, South32 and the ‘Hermosa Helpers’ hand out school supplies to local kids as they head back to school. The two events this year, organized in partnership with both the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District and Nogales Unified School District, provided over 1,000 students with notebooks, pencil cases, stickers, and more to get them ready and excited for the upcoming school year! _____ 📸 Algunas fotos geniales de nuestros eventos anuales de regreso a clases en Nogales y Río Rico ✏️🍎 Cada año, South32 y los 'Hermosa Helpers' entregan útiles escolares a los niños locales cuando regresan a la escuela. Misael Cabrera, PE, Director for the University of Arizona School of Mining & Mineral Resources, teaches his students that mining is not part of the problem, rather the solution to create a more sustainable future. Minerals like manganese and zinc – both of which are found at Hermosa – are recognized by the U.S. Geological Survey as critical minerals, meaning they are essential to the economic and national security of our nation and have supply chains that are vulnerable to disruption. Hermosa has the opportunity to set a new standard for sustainable mining and help strengthen our domestic supply of these critical minerals.
