Recent findings highlight a golden opportunity for enhancing water management across the U.S. Coastal sub-basins, covering just 12% of urban land, account for 37% of national stormwater runoff potential. States like Texas, Florida, and California are leading in runoff potential, outlining the vast opportunities for stormwater capture. 🌊 WEFTEC Stormwater and Watershed Combined Communities Meeting Recap 🌊 #WEF #Stormwater and #Watershed Management Community members gathered at #WEFTEC in New Orleans last week to hear an inspiring presentation by Meagan Williams, P.E., Urban Water Program Manager at the City of New Orleans’ Office of Resilience and Sustainability. Meagan’s insights set the tone for a morning of innovation and collaboration. We were privileged to have Chris Kloss and Lisa Biddle from the #EPA Office of Water join us. They provided a valuable update on the Stormwater Centers of Excellence, highlighting the most recent activities to improve stormwater management nationwide. Dynamic focus group breakout sessions followed the meeting. These sessions allowed us to dive deep into strategizing and planning for 2025. The discussions were rich with ideas demonstrating these community members' collective expertise and commitment. In the afternoon, we reconvened for some additional networking time. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect and build relationships to progress our efforts. The day was capped off with outstanding musical entertainment by Jacob Bruenoehler🎸, providing a perfect backdrop for informal conversations and camaraderie while some sang along. Exciting news! The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is thrilled to announce that we received a $200 million grant from the EPA to advance nature-based solutions and reduce carbon emissions across Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia!   This funding is part of a huge $421 million grant from the EPA, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 — the largest ever for natural climate solutions!   This grant will enable TNC to significantly expand its efforts, improving forest management over 67,650 acres in the Appalachians, restoring 33,000 acres of peatlands, protecting 10,500 acres of land, and restoring 150 acres of tidal wetlands – helping us to reduce wildfire and flood risks and to achieve our 2030 goals for nature and the environment.
