Did you know that food production is responsible for as much as 25% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions? Shifting towards more plant-rich foods can make a substantial difference. That’s why we've teamed up with the World Resources Institute (WRI) to bring the Coolfood Pledge to healthcare facilities across Europe. Together, we are committed to cutting GHG emissions linked to food served in healthcare facilities and reducing its impact on the climate. Through the Coolfood Pledge, participants have the opportunity to: 🌱 Adopt science-based reduction targets for food-related emissions. 🌱 Track, calculate, and reduce their emissions. 🌱 Access best practices and support. 🌱 Receive personalised feedback. Ten healthcare facilities across Europe – representing 9 million meals annually – have already signed the Coolfood Pledge so far, reducing food-related GHG emissions by 7% per plate since 2015. Our annual progress report is live! Here's the highlights: 🎯 The Coolfood Pledge is a commitment by our members to reduce their food-related emissions by 25% by 2030 - a level of ambition in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. 🏙️ Cities and healthcare facilities are leading the way — some have even hit their 2030 reduction targets ahead of schedule! (Congratulations to Copenhagen, Ghent, Milan, and New York 🌟) 📉 How did they do it? Emissions reductions are largely the result of serving more plant-based foods and less red meat. Across all sectors, the share of plant-based food on the plate is up by an average of 4%, and within cities, it's up by 21%! This is great progress, but there's more to be done. Are you ready to make a difference at your organization? Check out our progress report and see how we can help you shape the future of food. Food has enormous potential to heal the planet. However, that potential sits on the other side of real action from businesses, governments, and each of one us. 🌎 This #ClimateWeekNYC, Coolfood joined other change makers at the first ever Tilt Collective Food Day! We heard from sustainability leaders at Aramark, US Tennis Association, and Hackensack Meridian Health who are working to cut their food related emissions by 25% by 2030. 🥕 The food system is responsible for 1/3 of global greenhouse gas emissions. We must rethink our food choices and diets to create a more sustainable future - it's non-negotiable. It's been energizing and inspiring to see a strong focus on food this week, and to learn from other trailblazing leaders. Onward! #DeliciousClimateAction #SustainableFood #FutureOfFood
