Climate change is severely impacting global food production, with rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and extreme weather reducing crop yields and threatening farmer livelihoods 🌾 #Agriculture accounts for 11% of global #GHG emissions, but when including the food system's supply chain, it's closer to one-third. Without action, food-related emissions could push us past the 1.5°C target—even if other sectors go net-zero. Nations are revising their #NDCs to include sustainable farming, reducing food waste, and agroforestry, but more consumer-focused actions are needed. Did you know the global transport sector is the second-fastest-growing source of GHG emissions? 🚗💨 Next-generation #NDCs offer a key opportunity to reshape transportation by setting ambitious, context-specific targets. Governments need to aim for fossil fuel-free land transport and energy usage reductions to help meet 2030 net-zero goals. This transition is critical for human health, safety, and the planet. Next spring, countries are required to put forward stronger national climate commitments (#NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. These plans are critical to limiting global warming to 1.5°C. New WRI Climate research published today finds that in their previous commitments, major emitters didn’t take full advantage of a powerful tool to rapidly drive down emissions – promoting pro-climate behavior changes. The paper finds that only a few of the world’s highest-emitting nations are using their NDCs to induce pro-climate behavior changes. Of nine critical behaviors analyzed, only three are consistently addressed by at least half of these countries: encouraging electric or hybrid vehicle purchases, encouraging public transport use and reducing household energy use. Alarmingly, high-impact shifts such as decreasing air travel were missing from all 20 major emitters’ NDCs, while only the United Kingdom mentioned shifting to more sustainable diets. 📖Read the full paper here: https://bit.ly/4eMFaOj

💰 Money comes in, atmospheric carbon comes down. ⬇️ That's what we hope for in an ideal scenario where the EU and US both significantly scale up funding for deploying CDR. But what does that look like in practice and what are both the EU and US doing toward that vision? Join us for an overview of current CDR policy in the EU and US presented by our own Alexis Dunand and Katie Lebling from the World Resources Institute. Their analysis will serve as the basis for a discussion between Noah Deich from the US Department of Energy, Jane Flegal from Stripe and Fabien Ramos from the European Commission moderated by our own Christoph Beuttler. 🙏 Thank you to Jack Andreasen for providing some insightful opening remarks! #NDCs are a promising tool for driving sustainable behavior change, yet the world's top GHG emitters have underutilized their potential. Despite NDC commitments, we remain far from reaching necessary emissions reductions. WRI’s latest analysis examines the NDCs of the 20 highest-emitting countries, focusing on 9 key pro-climate behaviors that could make a significant impact: 💻 Reduce air travel, including by shifting to video-conferencing ⚡ Increase electricity or hybrid vehicle use 🚌 Increase use of mass transit and carpooling 🚶 Increase active mobility to replace journeys using petrol or diesel vehicles 🥕 Shift to diets with less animal protein 🗑️ Reduce food loss & waste ☀️ Expand residential solar installations 🍳 Promote clean cookstoves 🔌 Improve home insulation & energy-efficient appliances However, only 3 behaviors—promoting electric vehicles, public transport, and energy efficiency—are well-represented in most NDCs. It's time to leverage NDCs fully to drive climate-friendly behavior changes and meet global targets. Learn more from WRI Climate: https://bit.ly/4gNROhQ

1/3 of all the food in the world goes uneaten 🗑️ To reach food loss and waste reduction targets, more climate finance is needed. P4G Partnerships highlights three viable and scalable startups for reducing food loss and waste: 1️⃣ 🌽 Agricultural waste is a huge challenge in Indonesia, reaching 115 million tons per year. P4G helps startups like Wastex transform waste into organic fertilizer, increasing crop yields and farmers incomes. 2️⃣ 💼 Reducing food loss and waste is a $1 billion opportunity that can deliver profits and jobs for people. Startups like Chanzi are turning food waste into feed and fertilizer. P4G is helping climate startups like Chanzi, scale. 3️⃣ 🍽️ EatCloud rescues surplus food from restaurants, and has redistributed over 40,000 tons (92M meals) since its launch. With P4G's support, EatCloud is expanding its innovative approach to reducing hunger globally. Learn more about how P4G Partnerships is working to unlock a zero food loss and waste future: https://bit.ly/4gDTt9Q
