LGBT Friendly counseling service provider. My psychotherapy approach is based on psycho-dynamic, object relations, Satir, and client-centered. I offer a safe space to explore your thoughts, experiences, and feelings through verbal, projective and unconscious (free-association) means. The intention is not to offer advice or guidance, but to listen, accept, and perhaps gently challenge you, genuinely and without judgment, in your exploration of your experiences. You may come to find it easier to listen to and accept yourself, and to be able to make more genuinely fulfilling choices for yourself.

Do you want to understand why you always act the way you do? Does it seem to you that your behavior follows repetitive patterns and you'd like to be able to change it, but you tend to always fall back into the same ruts? How about starting from the beginning and trying to understand what's going on?

I specialise in anxiety, depression and men's related issues such as barriers to intimacy, ED, low/no sex drive, pornography addiction, and relationship challenges. In psychotherapy sessions I provide a confidential setting that encourages you to reflect on your journey. We will explore the feelings, emotions and impact significant events have had on the way you experience day-to-day life. We will work through your thought process moving towards the version of you that you've always wanted to be. Who is that person? Are they confident in themselves? And most importantly, do they allow themselves to smile, laugh and be happy?

Change is uncertain and stressful as it is. Our body and emotions may respond in a way that is overwhelming and confusing. I can imagine how daunting, isolating and stuck one may feel. I hope to help you understand what your emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and body are trying to communicate to you. You can learn more adaptive ways of understanding and coping with your circumstances. With practice, it is relieving to reclaim your bandwidth and time to rest and pursue meaningful goals.

I often meet clients as they are reaching the limits of their abilities to handle life's surprises. This doesn't necessarily mean that their lives are falling apart, but they're recognising what is working for them now may not always work and they're seeking new ideas and new ways to live. Whether that is handling stress at work, dealing with conflicts in their relationships, clients I work with often feel like they're coming up short and are unable to break through - in short, like they're stuck. They want to try something new but are unsure what may work and are looking for resources and support to build themselves up.

Based in Canada, seeing client in Hong Kong! I work with clients who are looking for scientific evidence-based practice and warm caring connection. I believe that change starts with the relationship that we form in the therapy and then continues by building useful skills in and outside of our sessions. In practice this means that I fit best with clients who are interested in (1) understanding more about their thoughts and emotions while also (2) taking clear steps to improve their mental and physical well-being. My job as the therapist is to provide a warm and caring environment to support the client in this process.

I seek to support clients who are looking to make positive change in their lives. They may want to move away from difficult emotional states like depression, anxiety, anger and loneliness or address repetitive and destructive behaviours such as substance abuse or sexual compulsion that are holding them back. They may also be overwhelmed by big transitions like bereavement, divorce or relocation and feel stuck, or unvalued, in their professional journey. I see clients of all ages and from many walks of life, with a particular focus on men's mental health, adolescents and young adults, and members of the LGBTQ community.

Hi! Originally from Canada, I’m a psychotherapist (aka, “practical psychologist”) with over 20 years’ experience here in Asia. Currently I specialize in three specific areas: Couples & Relationship Counselling, ADHD (all ages) and Teenage Boys. My basic approach is fluid and flexible, but more importantly... practical. In general, I work under the assumption people come to therapy seeking real-life solutions & strategies and a new way of being, rather than ongoing “talk therapy” or a bunch of theory. Ready for change? Great. Let's make it happen... ;)

Neuroscience has attested to the truth that we are hard-wired to connect, yet many people feel disconnected from others in contemporary world. Many suffer from alienation from themselves, fearfully not knowing what to make of the surge of unconscious impulses/feelings/fantasies. Psychotherapy is to redo these alienations, to bring wholeness to oneself and to one’s relationship, and to enhance more satisfaction in love and work. Seeing my clients boldly and lovingly embrace their true self and feelings with compassionate understanding brings me greatest joy.

I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients and couples. I am thankful to witness their soulful, courageous efforts to address the challenges that come to them. Many benefit from evidenced based treatment models that address their immediate needs and then turn towards a deeper consideration of how past traumas, and events are impacting their desires to grow and thrive. Each of them is looking to mature and enter a fuller experience of their humanity.

Life can be a struggle, and for some, the reasons for seeking therapy are clear: you might be exhausted, easily irritated, or extra sensitive. Perhaps you're constantly worrying or stuck in a low mood. Maybe you struggle to connect with others and fear you don't belong. You've noted specific problems you want to understand better and overcome. However, there are also times when it might not be so evident and you sense a lack of meaning, purpose, and satisfaction, and want to explore a way forward. I typically work with young (18+) and adult professionals looking to make more meaningful rather than reactive changes to their lives.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
