I was born in South Africa but have lived in New Zealand most of my life. I have had many life experiences such as volunteering in the NZ Fire Service (11 years) and travelling and volunteering in Africa. My passion for counselling grew as I spent time with people in my various experiences and travels, and discovered my desire for better skills to more effectively listen and help people navigate through their shared life experiences with me. I consider it a deep privilege to share a welcoming, safe, and honoring space with a person who chooses to share their footsteps with me. I am also a faith based counselling service (Christian).

I am a warm and friendly therapist, who loves helping both adolescents and their parents to navigate the stresses and changes of the teenage years. I can support adolescents with anxiety symptoms, low mood, academic difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma, grief, divorce or any other areas where they may feel stuck. My goals include helping adolescents to reach their full potential, as well as well as increasing their self-belief and overall wellbeing. As I am an Educational Psychologist, I work only with mild to moderate difficulties and will refer clients to the correct professional, in the case of severe- or crisis presentation.

As a clinical arts therapist (AThR) working with adolescents and adults I offer an alternative to talk therapy and counselling. When we can’t find the words to talk about our concerns, arts therapy provides an alternative pathway to discover what is troubling us. Being "good at art" is not important in arts therapy - the process is our focus not the product. For people with trauma histories our sessions will also focus on nervous system regulation and how to manage states of fight, flight, freeze and fawn. Engaging with creative processes invites presence and helps reduce nervous system dysregulation.

Do you need someone safe, empathetic and genuine to speak with? Someone who is not in your usual circle, so can offer a different outlook on problems? Someone who understands life is not easy and has many challenges along the way? I enjoy working with people who have either long term or short term challenges or goals, working towards a better understanding of themselves. Perhaps life has got you down, and you are not sure where to start in your journey of reclaiming life. That is when you may find a counsellor is someone to help you through these challenges - to support you, be honest with, and to help you reach your goals.

I enjoy working with youth and adults who are challenged by depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, self-harming behaviours, anger management, and neurodiversity. I use EMDR therapy effectively for most mental health challenges. I have experience managing my own ADHD, and both my children are neurodiverse. I can help support you with your short and long-term goals so you can focus on your future self. I have worked in the addiction field for five years and can assist you in working on the roots of your addictive thinking and behaviors and work on the distress that underlies the addiction.

People sometimes hesitate to engage with a therapist due to thoughts of “I don’t have it that bad”, “Maybe the therapist will think I shouldn’t be there.” In my 20 years of practice, I have never thought there was a person that couldn’t benefit from a safe, therapeutic space to process through their thoughts, emotions, and life experience. I honour any person that turns up to begin the courageous journey of having a deeper look at who they are. Together, taking into account what you’ve experienced, we can find ways to help you with whatever it is that you may be facing.

As a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience, my role as therapist is to create a safe space with boundaries. It requires a commitment from you to engage. Through this you will access an increased capacity to enjoy a full range of emotions. Access aspects of yourself without experiencing shame. Develop an ability to be self-reflective, and to think more creatively and openly about your past rather than repeating it.

I have emotionally supported hundreds of children through difficult moments for many years. Having studied in the USA, UK and NZ and worked with the children of the Christchurch Earthquakes for several years, I have been privileged to learn from and work with some very inspiring and resilient people. This knowledge was used to volunteer as crisis responder and as an in-person Youthline counsellor amongst other roles. Recently, I was employed as a Child and Adolescent Counsellor serving 13 South Otago area primary and intermediate schools. I now operate my own Private Practice in a beautiful and healing setting in Whakamarama.
