According to the Person-centered Approach, regardless of the presenting issue, the solution is to provide unconditional positive regard (nonjudgmental acceptance) communicated through empathic understanding to help a client shift from incongruence to congruence - moving away from feeling all over the place, broken, with rigid thought/emotional patterns, toward feeling all in one piece, whole, with flexible thought/emotional patterns.
