With over 15 of experience working in outpatient, homebased, school and hospital settings, I have worked with a variety of clients seeking to make positive changes in their lives. I specialize in creating a safe and compassionate space where you can explore challenges, gain insights, and discover effective coping strategies.

I have been a social worker for 30 years. The basis of our profession is to start where the client is. No matter what the issue we can start the process together. I've also said that relating to my clients and establishing a therapeutic relationship is more important than anything else I know. I have a wide range of skills, am approachable and easy to talk with about anything. My passion is working with others who want to improve their life circumstances. I can offer support, guidance and another perspective in what you can control to make the necessary changes. I am strength based and build on what you already have going well.

Counseling is a compassionate, honest, thoughtful conversation where the client feels deeply heard and understood. Individual meaning and wellness come from the complex web of interactions, relationships, and social processes. In a safe and confidential environment, clients can unburden their stress, pain, and suffering without fear of judgment or criticism. Alyssa Martin, MS, LAC is a South Dakota State Licensed Addiction Counselor and has a Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from South Dakota State University. She has experience in working with adolescents and adults in intensive inpatient treatment and outpatient settings. She uses cognitive behavioral, solution-focused and motivational interviewing therapeutic techniques. She specializes in substance abuse, addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief. She is currently employed at Black Hills Counselors and provides Substance Abuse evaluations, outpatient groups, DUI classes, individual, family and couples counseling sessions for adults and adolescents.

As a supervisee actively pursuing licensure for LMFT and RPT, I am passionate about utilizing play therapy techniques to promote growth for all children. I have completed training for EMDR therapy in which I can utilize with children who have traumatic experiences. As a therapist pursing my certification as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, I specialize in working with teens and their families, and adults who struggle with symptoms from eating disorders, such as anorexia-nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder, over exercising, body dysmorphia, and disordered eating. I also work with adults and teens who have symptoms of anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, and day to day life stressors.
