TLC is a children-first, secure attachment, trauma-informed children's centre in Walkerville, Gauteng
About us
At TLC we aim to give every child in our sphere of influence the opportunity to be raised in a loving home and never need care in an institutional environment. This mandate grew from over 30 years of experience in the community we serve with our Children’s Home, where we observed the interrelated social injustices that would ultimately end with a baby in our care. TLC comprises of various programs designed to "Revive the Village", a mission where we aim to reweave the damaged social fabric of our community by addressing the root causes that often end in child abandonment. This will serve to strengthen the community’s ability to support children in families.

We're curious!? 🤔 What are your thoughts on organizational overhead costs being covered by your gifts?
Absurd overhead rules starve our entire sector. But some nonprofits feel the most pain. Ridiculous restricted funding has a lopsided drain on local leaders in the Global South. Here’s the scarcity scenario. ⤵ “Trickles of funding give local NGOs just enough to implement short-term projects, but not enough to invest in improving and becoming financially independent,” says a new report in The New Humanitarian. Get this: ✖️ 50% of leaders have less than 21 days of unrestricted reserves. ✖️ Two-thirds report that donors shortchange their admin costs. “How do they expect us to work? Under a tree?” says Sally Maforchi Mboumien. The report highlights four problems: 1️⃣ 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗡𝗚𝗢𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘀 Donors favor international NGOs with developed infrastructure — neglecting smaller, locally rooted organizations. 2️⃣ 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 Small nonprofits can’t compete with the pay and benefits of big NGOs — leading to constant staff turnover. 3️⃣ 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 Many leaders must supplement their salaries by working additional jobs — at significant personal and family costs. 4️⃣ 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘀 Programs are undermined as some nonprofits are forced to rely on volunteers — impacting effectiveness and safety. So donors impede their own impact. Sabotage their own support. Hinder their own help. The nourishment needed? Unrestricted funding for all. ↳ Start with leaders in the Global South. Fund grassroots, not gatekeepers. ↳ And invest in sustainability, not scraps. 💪🏽💛

We are always extra, incredibly grateful when donors see value in supporting the behind the scenes needs of our management team. What surprisingly kind, professional and efficient support we received from the joint efforts of Blind Designs Commercial (sponsoring) and R & C Trading (installing) when gifting us these beautiful, custom fitted blinds in our admin block yesterday. 😎🥳🙏 #BTS #SuperSupporters #ForeverGrateful #TheOffice

Start with what matters. <3 #BeGentle
In the areas where our children live we find violence to be so familiar to them that it is 'normalised'. When they attend TLC Children's Centre at Embrace Village we actively teach skills for building a kinder, gentler more collaborative world. #Montessori Conscious Discipline #ittakesavillage #havecourageandbekind

Our Day Care for Vulnerable children is the core work within our Village. The overarching programs within Embrace Village are part of the holistic intervention we offer families on the cusp of crisis, offering "The Essential Package". It's remarkable to see the difference that it makes. To paraphrase The Beatles "(We) get by with a little help from our friends"... #Ittakesavillage
