  • #TNPAChristeningEL | Congratulating the Ports Authority on this significant milestone, the Eastern Cape Acting Premier, Hon. Mlungisi Mvoko said “Today’s milestone aligns with the strategic view that the ports are the biggest instruments in attracting investors. To us this falls within a package of investments by TNPA to improve capacity at the Port of East London. The investment made by TNPA will boost tugboat availability, improve shipping efficiencies and service delivery to customers. These efficiencies that the province will leverage on will increase the economic activities in areas of the automotive sector and agriculture. The acquisition of these two marine fleets will promote the competitiveness at the port”

#TNPAChristeningEL | During his speech, Transnet SOC Ltd Board Chairperson, Andile Sangqu reaffirmed Transnet's commitment to unlocking the industrial development and economic growth of the Eastern Cape with maritime industry stakeholders. He highlighted key expansion plans for South Africa's unique river port, including the deepening and strengthening of the port's automotive berth to address docking challenges. A significant milestone was reached in November 2023 with the start of the concrete works package. Once completed the port will be able to simultaneously berth two larger vessels resulting in increased volume throughput, this is progressive for the port and the province. “Investing in port infrastructure to drive efficiency and reliability is a catalyst for improved economic competitiveness. Ports are the lifeblood of trade, the gateways through which goods flow in and out of our economy” the Chairperson stated. Catch the event here: https://lnkd.in/dCs34HD8

The presentation of the 2023/2024 Annual Financial Results was held this morning at Transnet’s Esselenpark campus. Board Chairperson Andile Sangqu opened the event with remarks reflecting on the past year, acknowledging both its challenges and some successes, particularly in executive appointments and building successful partnerships with stakeholders. “The recovery of an infrastructure company such as Transnet is not going to be quick due to the condition of equipment across the organisation. However, we remain positive as we now have strong and technically competent leadership with a good understanding of the business and its challenges.” Sangqu added. Group Chief Executive Michelle Phillips and Group Chief Financial Officer Nosipho Maphumulo presented the financial results. Revenue grew by 11.6%, but a net loss of R7.3 billion was recorded, mainly due to a provision for litigation costs. Despite these challenges, we are moving towards financial stability. Regarding regulatory compliance, we reduced irregular expenditure by 37% and maintained an unqualified audit opinion, reinforcing our commitment to strong governance. Our vision is clear: to contribute significantly to South Africa’s economic goals through sustainable growth and modernization.
