A key area of focus is the development of the G20 Critical Minerals Framework. As a knowledge partner, UNDP is providing technical support to the South African Government in shaping this crucial framework to ensure sustainable industrialisation and equitable economic growth. I was honored to join the UNDP South Africa hosted Roundtable on Digital Transformation & SME Growth in South Africa, held on the sidelines of the B20 Summit. SMEs, contributing 34% to GDP and employing 60% of the workforce, face challenges like limited digital infrastructure, high data costs, and financing barriers—especially in township economies. The roundtable explored how digital transformation can: - Create new jobs in e-commerce, AI, fintech, and more. - Empower youth and women as entrepreneurs and digital leaders in the digital and green economy. - Drive wealth creation by expanding SMEs’ access to broader markets. The discussion featured insights from Achim Steiner, Maxwell Gomera, Oswald Jumira, Khomotšo Grace Legodi, Walter Mutyavaviri, Miles Kubheka, Josephine Katumba, and Kurhula Baloyi, all of whom provided valuable perspectives on fostering economic growth and inclusivity through digital innovation. The Limpopo River Basin is grappling with the critical issue of sedimentation, which poses significant threats to the river's ecology, water quality, and downstream communities. Effective sedimentation management is important to mitigate this challenge, necessitating a collaborative effort among stakeholders to implement sustainable land and water management practices. To address this issue, LIMCOM is convening a capacity-building training session in South Africa to enhance the capacity of Member States to monitor and address sedimentation in the basin. The capacity-building training session on the LIMCOM Sediment Monitoring Framework is being held from 11 to 13 March on the Olifants River in South Africa. This initiative is part of the project "Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin," implemented by LIMCOM in partnership with the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), with support from the UNDP South Africa, through funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
