The weekend of 23 and 24 November was a milestone weekend for #StefanuttiStocks, in particular for our #Renewables Discipline, that completed the first foundation pour at the 155MW Ummbila Emoyeni One Wind Energy Facility, currently being constructed in the mielie fields near Bethal in Mpumalanga. The project is being constructed over a period of 24 months, from start of construction until the project supplies electricity into the grid. The construction of the windfarm is being undertaken for Goldwind South Africa with Seriti Green being the developer, and entails the balance of plant works (civil and electrical) for the following: • 25 wind tower foundations with hardstands and crane pads • New internal roads • Upgrading of provincial public roads • 33kV overhead lines • 33kV underground cables • Construction of the new IPP substation (including 2 x 95 MVA transformers). Once all phases of this project are completed the wind energy facility will be the largest renewable hybrid energy facility in South Africa. 6,2MW towers will stand 130 metres high (at hub height) with 90m long blades and will be ‘rooted’ in 5,5 metre high, 24m in diameter foundations. This is the first full Balance of Plant scope for Stefanutti Stocks on a wind farm project. It is the first wind farm in Mpumalanga, and due to the size of the turbines and specific geotechnical requirements, it has the largest foundations constructed to date in South Africa. This achievement is a milestone for both our company and the country. Ummbila Emoyeni translates to “mielies in the wind” and as the mielies grow, the towers will go up too, and the first ones will be completed once harvest begins. #ExcellenceInExecution WSP in Africa BVi Consulting Engineers - BVi Group Zutari
