What do you know about Copper? Copper is used for a range of applications and is a critical input for many consumer and industrial goods in everyday modern life. Copper is used extensively in solar, wind, hydro and geothermal energy technologies. Due to the metal’s high conductivity, copper is extremely useful in everyday consumer electronics such as smart phones. These characteristics also make copper well-suited for use in mass electrification technologies as well as all aspects of the electricity system. The heat conductivity of copper makes it an efficient input for motor parts and industrial machinery applications. Copper also has antimicrobial properties, making it effective for use in medical equipment and plumbing applications. Making up approximately 15% of the forecast revenue from the Gonneville Deposit, copper demand continues to grow as supply decreases due to macroeconomic and geopolitical impacts. According to S&P Global reporting overall copper supply shortfalls could reach 1.6Mt by 2035. Recent reporting from McKinsey & Company in the 2024 Mobility Consumer Pulse outlines that 46% of American EV owners were ‘very likely’ to switch back to an internal combustion engine vehicle for their next purchase. Paired with tightening emissions standards in ICE vehicles, demand for #PGE is expected to continue growing.
