Our Road Science team has announced another important milestone in their sustainability journey. The Bluff Bitumen Plant in New Zealand has commissioned an electric hot oil heater, advancing efforts to transition away from fossil fuels for heating. Supported by the EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority)’s GIDI fund, this initiative complements Road Science’s existing furnace with a renewable alternative. By shifting to Bitumen Emulsion, we can achieve lower heating temperatures which reduces our carbon footprint by up to 171 tonnes per year 🌍 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gDBM_xh3 #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #RoadScience #Downer #Innovation

We're excited to share a significant milestone in our sustainability journey at Road Science. Our Bluff Bitumen Plant has commissioned an electric hot oil heater, advancing our efforts to transition away from fossil fuels for heating. Supported by the EECA’s GIDI fund, this initiative complements our existing furnace with a renewable alternative. As Ross Godkin, our National Manufacturing Manager, puts it, “this project allows for a gradual transition while reducing diesel consumption completely.” By shifting to Bitumen Emulsion, we can achieve lower heating temperatures and reduce our carbon footprint by 171 tonnes per year—equivalent to removing 68 cars from the road! 🌍 This innovative approach aligns with the NZ Transport Agency's goals for a low-carbon bitumen industry and shows the possibilities for sustainable solutions. 💚 We also liked to see our COO - Transport & Infrastructure, Murray Robertson making healthy choices! #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #RoadScience #Downer #Innovation

Today Auckland Airport announced it was entering into a contract with #Hawkins to deliver the new domestic jet terminal – the major structure in AKL’s upgrade. 🛫🏗 The project will see the current domestic terminal replaced and integrated into the international passenger function in a single combined terminal and is among the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in New Zealand. Hawkins has been working collaboratively with Auckland Airport in an Early Contractor Involvement phase since February 2022 and is also currently on site delivering an enabling work package for the Domestic Jet Terminal under a separate contract. “Downer and Hawkins are pleased to be part of this transformative project, delivering a world-class terminal for travellers, airlines, and the people of New Zealand." said Peter Tompkins, Downer CEO. Hawkins EGM, Craig Treloar, said: “Hawkins has a long-standing relationship with Auckland Airport spanning nearly 40 years, and we are proud to be part of this nationally significant project. We're committed to creating local opportunities through employment and supply chain partnerships, supporting the community every step of the way.” Auckland Airport Chief Executive Carrie Hurihanganui said: “We’re pleased to announce that we have partnered with Hawkins on the delivery of the domestic jet terminal building – the most significant element in Auckland Airport’s ongoing upgrade. “Auckland Airport has a long-standing relationship with Hawkins, and we know they have the track record and expertise to successfully deliver such an important aviation asset for New Zealand.” Well done to our team members for their hard work and dedication in reaching this important milestone. We’re thrilled to share that the EastLink Resurfacing Project has won the Victorian state award at the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) 2024! 🏆 Downer is incredibly proud to have been the delivery partner on this major $50M project, working alongside ConnectEast EastLink and Beca to resurface one of Melbourne’s most critical motorways. 🚗💨 With up to 250,000 vehicles using EastLink daily, minimising interruption for road users, improving its smoothness and increasing safety for the travelling public was all our top priority. Despite the challenges of night work and weather, we completed the project ahead of schedule in March 2024, with outstanding safety records and minimal impact on road users. The new surface is expected to last over 15 years, continuing to serve Melbourne’s eastern suburbs with the quality and safety that EastLink is known for. 🚧✅ A very well-deserved win, awesome work to our team in Victoria and everyone involved! 💪👏 👉 Learn more about this award-winning project here: https://bit.ly/3ZjAgUr #AIPMAwards2024 #ProjectManagement #Infrastructure #RoadSafety #EastLink #DownerGroup #ProudMoment #InnovationInAction
