🌀 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱: 𝗘𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝟭𝟭-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝟱𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 🌀 It’s been the biggest post-disaster power restoration in Queensland's history: Cyclone Alfred impacted supply to 500,000 properties; leaving 1600 powerlines on the deck, prompting 9000km of line patrols by thousands of restoration teams who repaired and rebuilt 135km of the network over 11 monster days and nights. On Sunday night – just a week after the peak of nearly 375,000 properties in the dark – power was reinstated to every property that could be safely resupplied, right across Alfred’s vast strike zone. The sheer scale and scope of the restoration was immense. The once-in-a-generation low-pressure system pounded Brisbane, the bay islands, Glitter Strip, the ranges and hinterlands with powerful winds and torrential rain. Homes and businesses from the southern Sunshine Coast to the NSW border; from Point Lookout to the Lockyer Valley had their power interrupted – that’s an area more than 150km north to south, and the same east to west. And Alfred didn't stick to Energex's territory – 30,000 of our customers, from Hervey Bay to Toowoomba, also copped gales and downpours that caused flash flooding and power cuts. Energex has rallied for regional Queensland communities during floods and cyclones. We repaid the favour with Alfred, with many hundreds of our people making a massive contribution to the South East’s record power restoration. Thousands of Energex frontline field staff were backed up by North Queenslanders who had recently finalised Ingham’s flood response, plus big contingents who travelled from as far as Mareeba, Hughenden, CQ and Roma. It’s been an epic few weeks, and we wrapped up Alfred’s restoration very tired, immensely proud and endlessly humbled. We saw extraordinary graciousness and patience, kindness and tenacity from hundreds of thousands of Queenslanders who were enduring the shock and unfamiliarity of a south-east cyclone; many struggling with vulnerable family members, some with damage to their homes, and pretty much all without power for long, long days and nights. So, thank you, SEQ, for the waves and friendly horn-toots; for the home-baked biscuits and the surprise delivery of pizzas to crews far from home; for the “You BEWDY!” social posts tagging our troops; for offers to help wash and dry soaked field uniforms and sodden boots; for the handmade cards and poems, and even a song. You kept us focused on why we do this, and who we do it for. Thank you for keeping the faith.

Energy Queensland is adding a lot of kit across the Ergon Energy and Energex networks as we build a grid for the future. With one of the largest and most geographically disparate networks any where in the world, we have to find innovate ways to design and deploy equipment. This is certainly the case with the batteries we're installing to support increased demand on the network. #batteries #futuregrid

𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗤𝗹𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 🌧 Two metres. That’s how much rain bucketed across Nth Qld since the start of February. 📅 Two weeks. That’s how long it’s been since waterways began surging in earnest; flooding, stranding, disrupting and in some cases devastating thousands of people. In that time, our teams battled floods, torrential rain, landslides, road closures and logistical nightmares to get the lights back on to 33,000 homes and businesses. In one of the most logistically complex restorations we’ve come across, we did it by chopper and fixed wing, by barge, by ATV, by railbus, and on foot, until it was possible to get in tracked machinery, trucks and utes. While Ingham was completely isolated, our local legends kept their community safe and paved the way for restoration, despite some of them being directly by flooding, and all of them without network power. Crews from Atherton, Cairns, Cannonvale, Charters Towers, Home Hill, Ingham, Innisfail, Mackay, Mount Isa, Mossman, Pinnacle, and Townsville joined their Ingham colleagues slogging it out in sometimes atrocious conditions. Backing the field crews was a fiercely focused small army of people switching the network, keeping our teams and the community safe, sourcing equipment and transport, wrangling the immense logistics, liaising with other agencies, fielding phone calls, keeping media and customers in the loop, and working directly to support flood-hit residents. It's been an awful few weeks for our communities, and many people face a long, long road to recovery. We’re still flat-out on the ground, reconnecting flood-damaged properties as soon as repairs have been made by occupants’ sparkies, and continuing ongoing checks on the network. Until the very last house has the lights on, we’ll be here. 🙏 Thank you, North Qld, for your enormous resilience, your encouragement for our troops, your care for your neighbours, and your understanding. 💪 NQ: just #builtdifferent 💪 📸 That unbeatable “the power’s back!” feeling: Lachie & Jack in Ingham 📸 📸 Beau Booker, Adam O’Bree & Mollison Robertson at Palm Island 📸 Katrina Lennon & a planeload of field crews bound for Ingham when there was no road access 📸 Ingham depot team did a superb job of safeguarding and supporting their local community 📸 Our Emergency Management Team led every facet of the flood response 📸 Kevin Lavender & Jamie Clarke at Ollera Creek / Smiles all round at Marina Parade - residents + Kieren Vonhoff, Justin McIntosh & Chris Hooper 📸 Nick Grant & Scott Ryan in the control centre 📸 Amanda Camm did an emergency boot swap with Britt West so she could inspect a waterlogged worksite Stephen Barrett Mathew Pearson Glen Dolan Katrina Kudla Teresa Keys Andrew Drazek Ruth Durrant Emma Oliveri Joanne (Jo) Kent Brett Judge John Fry Keegan Oliver Cassandra Jenkins David Langley Nikki Higgins Matt Rigano Joshua Jepsen Andrea Herde Danny Donald Sara Collins Kate Austin Anthony Hamill Rebecca Winter

This time last year our crews from across Queensland were in the thick of the power restoration effort after Tropical Cyclone Kirrily, including disaster response veteran Barry Fitzgerald. In this video he explains the lengths we go to whenever severe weather strikes - and why it pays to be prepared for anything over summer. #GetReadyQueensland #cyclones #floods #electricity #customers #community #disasterresponse

Australia Day means different things to different people, yet we’re all united by our collective strengths, diversity and achievements. And we’re so proud to see the amazing contributions of our own people recognised in the Australia Day honours – people like Josh Woolfe. 🙌 In his day job, Josh is part of our team that designs transmission lines. Outside of work, and whenever duty calls, he’s the First Officer with Saunders Beach Rural Fire Service. That means long hours in the air as an observer flying over fires and reporting back to the incident management team; a critical role which has today been recognised with an Australia Day Award. It’s a skillset which also translates seamlessly to his day job – he’s racked up solid air miles doing aerial damage assessments of the electricity network after disasters, including cyclones Jasper and Kirrily. “I’ve been volunteering for the Rural Fire Service for 13 years and we do it for our community not for the accolades, but it’s nice to be recognised in this way,” Josh said. “To be able to help my mates on the fire ground with intel from the air is really rewarding and I’d encourage anyone who wants to be part of the Rural Fire Service to sign up because we always need more volunteers right across Queensland.” Josh was also among a group of 22 Rural Fire Service vollies who received the National Emergency Medal in the Australia Day Achievement awards this week, recognising their immense efforts to the community during the 2019-2020 fire season – that’s our Josh pictured front and centre in the light blue shirt ☺ Kudos to Josh, and all the other mostly unsung heroes who contribute so much to Australia’s incredibly diverse communities. Wherever you are in our beautiful state, there’s an Australia Day event happening near you: https://lnkd.in/gMyimBV9 #australiaday2025 #communityservice #ruralfireservice #volunteering

In a disaster, you'll see Qld's amazing SES volunteers slogging it out alongside our crews; clearing debris so that we can get the power back on safely, and sooner. So, it's only fitting that we continue to make sure the Orange Angels have the equipment they need to do this critical work. This latest $300k equipment contribution from us, Energex and Powerlink Queensland, is part of our decade-long Energising Queensland partnership - thank you, SES 🙌
Today we launched the 2024-25 Energising Queensland SES Equipment Program alongside our partners Energex and Ergon Energy Network as part of Energy Queensland, and Powerlink Queensland. The $300,000 sponsorship provided by the State-owned energy companies will buy vital equipment for SES groups throughout the state. Now in its tenth year, the partnership has provided over $1.5 million worth of equipment benefitting the more than 5000 volunteers who dedicate their time to the SES. Thank you to our partners for a decade of helping Queenslanders, together! 💪🔌
