Cooking 1000s of nutritious meals a day for people in need. Kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane. Corporate volunteering.
About us
FareShare is a charity that has been cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough since 2001. We believe that every Australian deserves a nutritious meal, regardless of their circumstances or location. FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need. Each year FareShare transforms rescued, donated and our homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact. Our healthy meals are given away free to frontline charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges, First Nations organisations and groups providing disaster relief. The need for meal relief has never been higher with the soaring cost of living, frequent natural disasters and the lingering effects of the pandemic hurting millions of Australians.

We're reopening on Thursday! Our Queensland Kitchen experienced some damage from Cyclone Alfred, so our team is working as hard as possible to get it cleaned up and ready to go. This means our dedicated chefs and volunteers will be back in action, preparing cooked meals for people in need from Thursday. We are working with our charity partners to prioritise areas most in need. For our community partners, we appreciate your patience during this time. If you have any questions, please contact your Community Partnerships Officer.

FareShare reposted this
SecondBite | FareShare, together with OzHarvest and the Regional Food Security Alliance (RSFA), have published a response to the recent Victorian Inquiry into Food Security. In summary, we congratulate the committee on this vital step forward in addressing the levels of food insecurity in Victoria. With the inquiry's recommendations complete, it is now time for commitments to be made by all sides to better address the growing crisis. We have identified these three recommendations as priority actions: 1. That the Victorian Government develop a Victorian Food Security Strategy focused on a) transitioning the response from relief to resilience, b) supporting a community-led response to food security, and c) establishing a food relief sector which can be scaled to deal with sudden shocks and crises. 2. That the Victorian Government appoint a Minister for Food and establish a Victorian Food Security Committee, to support the development of a Victorian Food Security Strategy. 3. That the Victorian Government reestablish and resource the Victorian Food Relief Taskforce with an expanded membership to include First Nations people, persons with lived experience of food insecurity, and frontline agencies. Read our full response, and about the great SecondBite | FareShare, OzHarvest and RFSA programs that are already supporting the committee’s recommendations, here: https://lnkd.in/dxyECDUB

As proud signatories of the Australian Food Pact, we’re excited to share the progress made in redirecting quality, surplus food from landfill to food-insecure Australians. The newly released End Food Waste Australia 2024 Impact Report highlights the incredible collaboration across the supply chain. Through our partnership with Simon George & Sons, we've rescued 20 tonnes of fresh produce, creating 50,000 nutritious meals for those in need—showcasing the power of collaboration to fight both food waste and hunger. We're committed to continuing this important work by redirecting surplus food to those experiencing food insecurity. #Sustainability #EndFoodWaste #FoodRescue

We’re incredibly grateful to RACQ for their generous funding, which is helping us deliver over 53,000 ready-made meals to flood-affected communities in North Queensland. Their support, alongside Thread Together, is vital in providing both food and clothing to those in need during this challenging time. Together, we’re working to make a lasting impact and support the recovery of those who need it most.
We’re joining forces with charities FareShare and Thread Together to deliver essential food and clothing to flood-affected residents across North Queensland. Through these partnerships, FareShare will double the number of ready-made meals available through its Disaster Relief Meal Program to over 53,000, and more than 200,000 pieces of clothing will be made available through Thread Together's Emergency Clothing Hub and mobile wardrobes which will be positioned across flooded-impacted regions. Our Chief Purpose Officer MJ Bellotti said, “We know severe weather events, like the floods in North Queensland, can have a lasting impact on the whole community, and can be particularly distressing for those who have been displaced from their home, isolated by road closures or impacted by supply chain disruptions. “It was important for us to look at opportunities to do more, and this additional funding will get food and clothing to areas like North Queensland now and in the future.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gf7K96q7

In December, RACQ took over our Brisbane kitchen, lending us 134 volunteers. Across eight shifts, the team put in a HUGE effort - plating up 19,312 meals and packing 15,500 meals. This made a big impact - representing nearly 20% of our production for the entire month in just six days! On top of this, their very generous donation will allow us to make a further 14,286 cooked meals for people doing it tough. We can’t thank RACQ enough for their generosity and we can't wait to partner with you again in 2025!

🍛2.3 MILLION MEALS 🍜 That's how many meals you helped us cook for people doing it tough in 2024! We couldn't have done this without the more than 100,000 kgs of produce grown in our kitchen gardens or the 1,200 regular volunteers, 477 companies, and 132 schools who generously volunteered their time. A big thank you to all! In 2025, we're striving to feed even more Aussies in need. Please donate today at https://lnkd.in/g7ktpvNM
