  • A look inside The Mondrian Gold Coast. This is a building that embraces it's natural surroundings, with undulating profiles that echo the curves of Burleigh's sand dunes and headland. Designed as an extension of the natural environment, it allows you to start relaxing from the moment you arrive. The ground floor is shaped by natural urban rooms, defined by a series of articulated vaults. Textured concrete reflects the raw beauty of eroded shells along the shoreline, bringing the essence of the beach and Burleigh’s easygoing lifestyle indoors. It’s the kind of place where you can walk straight in from the beach, salty and sandy, and feel like you belong. • We’re excited to announce that the Mondrian Gold Coast is set to open in the second quarter of this year, marking a new chapter for the Gold Coast as a world-class tourism destination. Designed to reflect the essence of Burleigh Heads, the Mondrian embodies “barefoot luxury,” forging a connection between the natural surroundings and the built environment. This project has been brought to life through a close collaboration with Vitale Property Group, and we’re thrilled to see this vision come to life. Thank you to The Urban Developer Editorial for featuring this milestone - there is so much to look forward to in 2025. #development #goldcoast #hotel #hospitality #mondrian #burleighheads

  • After a year of moving offices, building our new space, making headway on some major projects, and welcoming a few new faces (including four new babies!), our VIC and QLD teams wrapped up 2024 with an end-of-year review. It was the perfect moment to reflect, celebrate, and look ahead. 2024 was a year of very big steps for our design platform, and we’re excited to keep the energy going. During the review, team members shared our favourite architectural projects – from iconic landmarks to bold, experimental designs. Each choice offered a glimpse into the individuality and passion that drive our practice. Curious about what’s been inspiring us? • Progress update on our Melbourne architecture office project, led by Associate Director and Head of Interiors, Melissa Leung, in collaboration with G-LUX and Linkstone Australia. To date, 254 bespoke tiles have been laid, crafted from repurposed natural stone offcuts to showcase the beauty and variation of 40 different stones while ensuring zero waste. The curated layout transforms our flooring into a stone library, featuring an extensive range of natural stones, predominantly marbles. Each tile highlights the unique characteristics of the materials – no two slabs are the same – and demonstrates how stones can be paired tonally or juxtaposed for bold contrasts. This material-led design focuses on authenticity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. It’s a sustainable and creative approach that not only honours the materials but also inspires our clients, offering a deeper understanding of the possibilities of natural stone. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses.

  • In recent years, Australia’s #construction industry has faced an unprecedented crisis. Surging costs, material shortages, and labour constraints have culminated in a situation where many projects are delayed, scaled down, or abandoned altogether. Nowhere is this more keenly felt than in Victoria, where a strong demand for residential and commercial construction meets a market struggling to maintain affordability and efficiency. As a leading architecture practice based in Victoria, we believe it is essential to address this crisis head-on, explore its root causes, and propose potential solutions to navigate these turbulent times. • Personalised, uncompromising residences at Waterline Place are designed for multi-generational living. These family homes adapt to suit every variant of the modern Australian household. Thoughtfully crafted floorplans maximise panoramic vistas of Port Phillip Bay and the CBD, offering all the benefits of a house without the downsides - no gutters to clean, no lawns to mow, and no strangers at your doorstep on a Saturday morning. At Waterline Place, adaptable layouts let buyers transform a three-bedroom design into an expansive living space with dual views across the water, if that’s what they fancy. That’s important because AVJennings and Fraser & Partners are in the business of creating communities. It’s all in the details. #waterlineplace #williamstown #architecture #design #community

  • We acknowledge the Great Aussie Dream of a quarter-acre block in the ‘burbs is not what it used to be. If we’re going to solve the housing crisis in Victoria, we need to embrace density - but it needs to be done right. At Waterline Place, we’ve found a way to make vertical living feel like an upgrade, not a compromise. Visitors quickly realise that apartments can be better than houses. Within the precinct, we’ve reimagined community living, inspired by the neighbourly streets of Williamstown. Gone is the ubiquitous shotgun corridor; instead, one lift lobby serves just four apartments, encouraging neighbours to truly connect. #housingcrisis #victoria #masterplanning #architecture

Complementing The Queensbridge Building, an active proposal with the City of Melbourne reimagines the 10,000 m² underpark below the Kings Way overpass as Melbourne’s Low Line, inspired by New York’s celebrated High Line. Central to the proposal is a community food truck area, envisioned as an external food court for the city. Owned by the council, these food trucks aim to bring a new spark to Melbourne’s culinary scene, which has long thrived on the creativity of owner-chefs. This isn’t about high-end, expensive restaurants—it’s about bringing accessible and exciting offerings to the community. The space incorporates community sporting facilities, including a basketball and Futsal court, a kids’ playground, and a bouldering facility. An EV charging fleet, sunken amphitheatre, and public art commissions will further set the tone for a personable and community-focused neighbourhood, serving Melbourne’s densest population. Located within a flood zone, the design integrates water catchments to remove surface water and filter it through an urban wetland rich with endemic species, fostering biodiversity and enhancing flood resilience. #thequeensbridgebuilding #southbank #melbourne #architecture #melbournearchitecture

  • We know that the best-designed precincts make for closely knit communities that are miles ahead of fortress suburbia. Over the past decade, we’ve partnered with AVJennings to design five apartment buildings and 40 townhouses that form the Waterline Place precinct in Williamstown, VIC. These residences represent the pinnacle of multi-level living, thoughtfully designed to complement and enhance the local community. That’s important in Williamstown because it’s less of a suburb of Melbourne and more of a cosy seaside town. We’re proud of our collaboration with AVJennings - a developer embracing a vision to create a precinct that reflects and connects with this dynamic, eclectic, and vibrant community, bringing together people from all walks of life.
