I had the pleasure of attending an engaging panel discussion about balancing and mastering customer feedback at Dovetail last night. The panel provided juicy insights on a range of topics: - Collecting feedback - Continuous discovery - Prioritisation & decision making - Challenges with data (accessing and storing) - Balancing business goal and customer insights *Key takeaways* Tamara Paulin : There are 3 main streams in the feedback funnel, each stream serves a different purpose. Hope the visual I created on Canva did your vision justice 😉 Sarah Burton : Prioritise solving problems outside of the product ecosystem that have a bigger impact on customers daily lives. Keep an eye on customer feedback, draw patterns and try to kill two birds with one stone by designing solutions that solve multiple problems. Fatima Kamali, PhD : We can be a better customer advocate by translating customer insights into language that stakeholders understand. Provide more context and background so everyone is on the same page. Bonus nugget from Anahita Jamshidi Fard : Managing stakeholder expectations using percentages i.e We can get it to X % in X days, if you want it at Y % we'd need more time. Shoutout to new friends Elisa Guth Sarah Esteban Arielle Sodowick Michaela Upton Kirsten Randall and it was lovely catching up with some familiar faces Jessica Pang Maigan Webster Thank you to Jeremie Gluckman for organising the event, Dovetail team for hosting and providing yummy nibbles and drinks and Anahita Jamshidi Fard for moderating this informative session. Looking forward to the next event!

Great panel last night at Dovetail about balancing and mastering customer feedback! My fave takeaways: - Tamara Paulin suggested that there are 3 main streams we get customer feedback from (sales/marketing, voice of the customer, user research) and they each serve a different purpose. Use it like a funnel - start broad and use insights from the top to help work your way down to which specific customer and customer need to focus on. - Sarah Burton urged us to find the universal truths about our customers. What are the problems they face with tasks they need to do; problems that exist even when we completely remove our product from the equation? Is that piece of customer feedback about a "real" problem or a problem that our own product created? - Fatima Kamali, PhD emphasised that we would be much better at advocating for our customers if we learn how to tell their stories in a way that makes sense to business. Understand the business context but also make sure you share the customer's context with your business stakeholders. Thanks to Jeremie Gluckman for organizing such a lovely event and being such a great host despite jet lag, Anahita Jamshidi Fard for being so in her element moderating the panel, Tomas Belica and Erin Campbell for the hosting efforts!

I used to do user interviews all wrong. I would take notes while I was interviewing, which led to me not being present and missing important details all while furiously scribbling down what were hardly accurate quotes. Then I would then have to rewatch the entire interview, pause, and take notes, resume, pause, and take more notes. It took me literal hours to pull out all the insights, affinity map and then observe key themes. Now times this by 5-10 interviews 🫠 Sound familiar? And then I met Dovetail–all you need to do is upload videos or transcripts from your user interviews, they take care of the rest: Makes a transcript for video interviews ✅ Highlights the key takeaways ✅ Analyzes the highlights across all interviews to detect themes ✅ Creates video reels of related highlights and integrates with tools like Slack so that you can share with your stakeholders! 🤯 …all of this in literal minutes while securely storing your data and not using it to train models (*cough *cough *ChatGPT…) It’s seriously magic. I’ve been using Dovetail for over a year now and it’s seriously a game changer. Not only has it saved me countless hours (I filmed this video in just over a minute), but it’s also helped me build credibility as a designer and get buy-in from stakeholders. A win-win-win. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 👋🏻 I'm Emilie–I help people transition to UX and upskill as a designer. 💬 Like and comment to support 🔄 Repost to help other designers P.S.
