Developing Australia's Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Industry
About us
Jet Zero Australia is a leading-edge Australian bioenergy company established to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and driven by our determination to build a better Australia today. Our vision is to be at the forefront of the emission reduction revolution, with plans progressing to develop Australia’s first Alcohol to Jet Fuel (ATJ) facility, taking surplus ethanol production from agricultural and sugarcane by-products, and converting it to SAF via a plant to be built in Queensland. Underneath the stunning backdrop of the Brisbane skyline, the bioenergy industry joined together with parliamentarians and other government leaders this week for a very successful Renewable Fuels Meets Queensland Parliament event on the Green Deck of Parliament House. Rousing speeches in support of the Queensland bioenergy industry were delivered by Leanne Linard MP, Minister for the Environment & the Great Barrier Reef and Deb Frecklington MP, Shadow Minister for Energy and Cost of Living & Shadow Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing, which showcased the breath of support for the bioenergy opportunity. Jet Zero Australia CEO Ed Mason's address focused on the need for industry and policymakers in Queensland to continue to explore ways to promote the growth of the SAF sector in order to cement Queensland’s status as the bioenergy leader of the Asia-Pacific region. As our industry body a big thanks must go to Bioenergy Australia for hosting such a successful event this year and we look forward to many more to come.

Jet Zero Australia were pleased when CEO Ed Mason was invited by the Department of State Development and Infrastructure to be a guest speaker at the recent Townsville Industry Breakfast held at Townsville RSL. The theme of the event was 'Opportunities for Energy Transition in the North' and the exciting growth the renewable energy sector is driving in the region. The event was very well attended and saw 300 local industry and government leaders join together to discuss the bright economic future for pioneering Far North Queensland. It was a fantastic opportunity to provide an update on how our Project Ulysses is advancing just south of Townsville, which will create an estimated 1,000 jobs during construction and 100 jobs ongoing once operational. More importantly however it was an excellent event to engage with the growing number of stakeholders advocating for the development of this industry in Australia, including airlines, airports, investors, lenders, renewable energy suppliers, engineering firms, fuel companies and industry bodies. The SAF opportunity is huge for Australia and goes beyond decarbonising our airline carriers, and includes economic benefits such as the creation of new skilled employment, fuel security and new growth opportunities for our agricultural sector.

Ed Mason joined the Tourism & Transport Forum last week as the guest speaker. Jet Zero Australia would like to give special thanks to TTF’s CEO Margy Osmond the invitation, and for her strong leadership calling for the urgent development of a domestic SAF industry as vital for the long-term success of our tourism sector. We would also thank David Young from Accor for providing such a beautiful venue. We spoke about the benefits that Jet Zero Australia's Project Ulysses, based in Townsville, will have for our region's tourism sector. Engineering design work is well underway and we can't wait to share with the community our plans! #Sustainability #Tourism #Transport #Forum #SAF #RenewableDiesel
🍃 ✈ Yesterday Jet Zero Australia CEO Ed Mason joined Tourism & Transport Forum members at our latest Leaders Luncheon in Sydney. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear about the work that Jet Zero Australia is doing, which is leading the development of a $600 million SAF refinery in Townsville. Developing a local SAF industry is critically important for the aviation sector to decarbonise and ensure that Australia remains a competitive destination for visitors, especially given that we are a long-haul destination for many countries. Australia has the potential to be a leader in the development of SAF through our access to domestic feedstock supply which will also bring a wealth of other benefits including job creation, economic development and greater fuel security. TTF Chair Bruce Baird, CEO Margy Osmond and Deputy CEO Graeme Moses were delighted to be joined by Tourism and Events Queensland Executive Director - Corporates Affairs Lisa Backhouse, BESydney General Manager Content, Creative & Corporate Affairs Carolin Lenehan, Airbus Chief Representative Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Executive Australia Pacific Stephen Forshaw, SEC Newgate Australia Chairman Brian Tyson, Sydney HeliTours Manager Director James Veall, Ashurst Partner - Hotels, Leisure & Gaming John Stawyskyj, Jet Zero Australia Partner - Freshwater Strategy Leo Shanahan, L.E.K. Consulting Partner - Aviation, Travel & Transport Ian Kershaw, Sydney Airport Group Executive, Government Relations, Sustainability and Legal Karen Tompkins, Virgin Australia General Manager Sustainability Fiona Walmsley, Accor Director of Sustainability David Young and Accor Vice President Operations NSW & ACT Nathan Cox. A big thank you to our world-class venue partner Swissôtel Sydney for hosting the event.

Jet Zero Australia reposted this
I'm really excited by the opportunity for Australia to be a super-scale clean liquid fuels producer. 45% of Australia's energy comes from liquid fuels - mostly carbon-intensive petroleum products. And 90% of it is imported. What we're talking about here is standing up an industry that produces clean aviation fuel in Australia. This can help aviation here decarbonise faster and more than any other pathway in the next few decades. It can create tens of thousands of jobs, for people in rural and regional Australia - some of whom are already being displaced by the energy transition, so why don't we seize the opportunity to give them a new pathway? And we can protect Australia's sovereign interests and national security by reducing our dependence on imports. It can start with our farmers, which is why I've enjoyed speaking to them and sharing the opportunity, just like the one we see, with our partners at Qantas, by investing in Jet Zero Australia .. and more to come. Now, we need the right policy levers from Government. Their announcements of support are welcome, and we're helping them to shape the details, because what we do in the next 12-18 months makes the difference. Are we ready to be a liquid fuels super-power? Our farmers can be the first key to a clean energy future for transport.
Jet Zero Australia will help Australia realise its potential as a renewable liquid fuels superpower. Project Ulysses is based in regional powerhouse Townsville and is expected to produce 113 million litres of renewable liquid fuels. The future of Australian transport and liquid energy will be defined by what we do in the next 12 to 18 months. We're excited to be recognised as a finalist for the 2024 Australian Aviation Awards' Sustainability Initiative of the Year alongside our friends at Cairns Airport and Air bp. Our flagship Project Ulysses will be the first Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) facility in Australia, and Asia-Pacific region, aiming to produce over 100 million litres of #SAF. Jet Zero Australia is an early mover in the new SAF sector in Australia. We expect to reduce the lifecycle carbon emissions of domestic aviation fuel by >70% when compared with current fossil-based A1 jet fuel, dramatically reducing the carbon footprint throughout the entire aviation supply chain. This achievement is a testament to our engineers and our project partners who are supporting us in this important #SAF journey. Jet Zero Australia re-affirms its leadership in the development of ATJ technology globally. With confirmation by LanzaTech that the licence agreement announced in February between LanzaJet and Jet Zero Australia is one of the world's first to be signed. The agreement represents the execution of the first step for the commercialisation of the ATJ process outside the US. Jet Zero Australia looks forward to bringing this revolutionary technology to Far North Queensland. We intend to realise our vision to make Australia a leader in the development of SAF production from agricultural by-products.
