Melbourne Airport is growing with Victoria, and we are excited to share plans for our Third Runway, a new 3,000-metre addition that will run parallel to the existing north-south runway. This major project, set to meet the demands of Melbourne's expanding community, will include new taxiways and essential infrastructure to enhance access for passengers and freight, supporting economic growth for years to come. After a comprehensive community consultation process, the approved Third Runway Major Development Plan (MDP) is now available for public viewing. Further details about the Third Runway and a copy of the Major Development Plan is available here: https://brnw.ch/21wODRb We anticipate that the third runway will open in 2031. #MelbourneAirport #Aviation #ThirdRunway

About us
Since 1970 Melbourne Airport has been Victoria’s gateway to the world, operating curfew-free, 24 hours per day, seven days a week. We are one of Australia’s premier transport hubs situated on an estate of 2,400 hectares. The greater Melbourne Airport precinct offers significant aeronautical infrastructure, a large business park and extensive road networks. The airport is located 22 kilometres northwest of Melbourne’s central business district and is well connected to the city’s freeway and arterial road network. Plans are progressing for a rail link connecting the airport to the suburban rail network via Sunshine. The airport is close to major industrial areas and serves as a hub for freight and logistics, while providing employment to thousands of residents in nearby suburban growth corridors. Melbourne is growing and Melbourne Airport is too. We expect to welcome more than 60 million travellers per year by 2033, and more than 14,000 people currently work at the airport, in industries as diverse as aviation, hospitality, freight and logistics, transport and retail. As we welcome more employees, travellers, and business partners to the airport, it’s important to be clear on our vision, purpose, and values. At Melbourne Airport, our vision is to be Australia’s favourite airport destination and we achieve this through our purpose which is to create connections that matter every day. Our values are: Be you. We celebrate diversity and earn the trust of our team and stakeholders by acting with integrity. Think big. We are visionary, with the courage to innovate and achieve our goals. Own it. We are results driven, make savvy decisions and take responsibility for our actions. Work together. We work together and communicate openly to achieve shared goals. If you are interested in working for Melbourne Airport please visit our Career Centre via our website.

In October, the number of passengers travelling through Melbourne Airport reached a new post-pandemic high, with a total of 3,138,380 people passing through the domestic and international terminals. The figure includes 2,163,667 domestic passengers, which is the highest number recorded since January 2024, while the 974,713 international travellers is a new record for October. Overall traveller numbers were up 4.1 per cent compared to October 2023, despite airlines operating fewer flights. Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the growth in traveller numbers highlighted the need for airports to take a long-term approach to infrastructure planning. “We’re investing more than a billion dollars a year in infrastructure upgrades, and they will cause disruption, but we’d like to thank our passengers for their patience while we undertake these important works.” Travellers are advised to plan ahead to avoid disruption. This Remembrance Day we paused to remember those who have served in all wars and peacekeeping operations. We also honour the 19,000 Victorian soldiers who were lost during World War 1 with a poppy for each on the Melbourne wall in T2 Departures. Lest we forget. Sydney and Melbourne Airports have launched an initiative to combat human trafficking by showcasing impactful images and messages on digital screens and billboards. This effort is part of The A21 Campaign "Can You See Me?" campaign, which aims to encourage individuals to report any suspicious behaviour they may encounter. Lorie Argus, CEO of Melbourne Airport, emphasised that this partnership extends beyond airport boundaries, stating, "It's about people’s lives." She further expressed, "By collaborating with Sydney Airport, the Australian Federal Police, and A21, we are taking a definitive stand against modern slavery - a concealed crime that devastates lives and futures." Melbourne Airport has unveiled changes today to parking pricing which means drivers who plan ahead, and book parking online will pay cheaper rates. The first price restructure in more than four years will keep daily parking as low as just $12 a day for online bookings but will introduce small increases to drive-up rates to help better manage demand. More than two thousand car park bays have been closed to facilitate construction of a new express road project, that includes expanded pick-up and drop-off zones for passengers using Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Melbourne Airport Chief of Ground Transport, Property and Retail Jai McDermott said, “We are investing a half a billion dollars in a new road network and smoother pick-up and drop-off experience for our customers, but that has necessitated the closure of more than two thousand car park bays.” The pricing changes will come into effect from Monday 04 November and will only apply to passengers who do not book online. Last night, we had the privilege of attending the Western Chances 21st Anniversary Gala – a remarkable celebration of two decades dedicated to empowering young people to pursue education and realise their full potential. Over the years, Western Chances has awarded 4,067 scholarships in Melbourne’s west, breaking down financial barriers and unlocking opportunities for the future. The evening was truly inspiring, featuring heartfelt stories from past and present scholarship recipients, a keynote by former PM of Australia, The Hon. Julia Gillard AC, and remarks from Western Chances Founding Chair Terry Bracks, our CEO Lorie Argus and Western Chances CEO Zac Lewis. For the past 15 years, Melbourne Airport has proudly supported Western Chances, and we’re excited to continue this journey with a renewed 5-year partnership as a major sponsor, ensuring continued support for this vital program. If you’d like to contribute to Western Chances and help more young people reach their goals, you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/gGmFEqa Pictured: Lorie Argus, Melbourne Airport CEO; Terry Bracks, Founding Chair of Western Chances; and former PM of Australia, the Hon. A taste of Melbourne’s iconic coffee culture was brought to Terminal 4 yesterday, with our top airport baristas battling it out for the prestigious title of 2024 Excellence Awards Barista of the Year! The competition was fierce, with the results of the elimination round so close that we had five finalists advance to the finale. Our talented baristas showcased their mastery, creating exceptional brews for our esteemed panel of judges - Justin Metcalf, World Barista Judge™ (Head Judge), Alec Maroush, ASCA-certified barista & brewers judge and Troy Benjamin, founder of BLAK BREWS and winner of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars 2024. Once the timer was off each of the baristas, our travellers who observed the competition also got to enjoy a free coffee. For our passionate airport baristas, the finale was a celebration of Melbourne's famous coffee scene. We are proud to bring the same standard of coffee to our staff, travellers and visitors to the airport. The winner of Barista of the Year will be announced at the 2024 Melbourne Airport Excellence Awards Gala, to be held on 14 November 2024. Veneziano Coffee Roasters, ST. This week marks Airport Safety Week, where we've worked with various teams across the airport to increase safety for both travellers and team members. Safety is at the core of everything we do. Our commitment to maintaining the highest standards is unwavering. As part of the week's activities, over 120 airport community members volunteered for the Foreign Object Damage (FOD) Walk, clearing debris from the tarmac to prevent potential hazards. Our Airfield Team also joined forces with Happy Days Donuts & Coffees, visiting locations around the airfield to share safety messages and gather valuable feedback from the airport community on enhancing safety practices. Additionally, Ambulance Victoria demonstrated defibrillator use, while other activities included the Construction Safety Forum, and webinars on various safety topics. Thank you to everyone who participated and to the AAA for their continued support in making this week a success. #MelbourneAirport #AirportSafetyWeek #SafetyMatters #FOD #AviationSafety #Teamwork #Airports

With 983,158 international travellers, we set a new September record, reflecting 10% year-on-year growth. In total, 2.99 million passengers used the airport in September, up 3.3% from last year.
