Our Dementia Care Connections community outreach program helps to build understanding of a condition that impacts so many people. For many family members, understanding the changing behaviours of a loved one is a real challenge. Join us on Tuesday, 20 August for the next session in our Exploring Dementia series, where we’ll focus on dementia and sexual behaviours. Today marks a significant milestone in the history of two leading Australian aged care providers. With dementia impacting so many Australian families, increasing understanding of the condition is vital to helping improve wellbeing for those living with the condition, and those who support or care for them. This July, we’re running TWO free webinars as part of our Dementia Care Connections community outreach program. ·     Our Foundations of Dementia webinars on Tuesday, 2 July are perfect for people who are new to understanding dementia, or want to broaden their knowledge of the condition. ·     In Exploring Dementia on Tuesday, 16 July we’ll focus on dementia and polypharmacy, or the use of multiple medications. Opal HealthCare’s dementia care experts will share insights into the meaning and impact of polypharmacy on wellbeing, contributing factors, and simple interventions to reduce polypharmacy. Having the freedom to make personal choices is vital for dignity, self-worth and confidence. And this is especially so for older people, who may feel unseen or undervalued. Our partnership with Thread Together (a fantastic organisation created to find social solutions to fashion excess), helps improve quality of life for residents whose circumstances or experiences before coming into care have left them in need of clothing. Since 2019, our partnership has provided more than 6,000 new items of clothing to our residents. Recently, members of our team spent a day at Thread Together, experiencing its incredible work to divert high quality garments from landfill to people who need it most. In 2024, we’re growing our partnership with Thread Together to provide even more support for residents in need, and offer purposeful volunteering opportunities for residents and our team alike. 🎉 Exciting news for people east of Melbourne, with the first sod turned on our new build for Croydon Grove Care Community. 🎉 We’ve supported older people and their families in the region with high quality residential aged care since 2021, when Croydon Grove Care Community joined the Opal HealthCare family. In partnership with retirement living provider, Aveo, we are enabling older people to continue to live locally through all the stages of ageing, by offering high quality residential aged care co-located within the Mingarra Retirement Living community. Through our investment in the Maroondah community, we’ll build a purpose-designed building and state-of-the-art amenities to people in the Croydon and Maroondah region, underpinned by our purpose of bringing joy to those we care for. With views over Croydon and to the Dandenong Ranges, our new Care Community will offer 121 bedrooms with ensuites, over four levels, and seven companion rooms for couples. Our Care Community will also feature beautiful resident kitchens, a central social hub with café, a Wellness Centre to support reablement and restorative care, and outdoor balconies or terraces in most bedrooms.
