"I was flying planes solo before I even had my driver's licence! At age eight my Mum gave me a discovery flying lesson and I was instantly hooked. Flying in the sky was like being in another world. I started my professional career as a flight instructor at Bankstown Airport, then decided to move to the Northern Territory to fly single-engine light aircraft around some beautiful but remote parts of Australia. Long, hot and humid days flying light aircraft with no air conditioning and manual refuelling were definitely character building, and you had to be quite determined to get through. But it was always my dream to be a Qantas pilot, and I achieved that dream 17 years ago as a 23-year-old. Getting that call was one of the best days of my life. It’s exceeded all my expectations, and I get to work with people who all share my love of flying, are proud to work for Qantas, and go to work every day to do their best. For me, the moments that make flying special is the satisfaction of safely getting thousands of people to their destinations each week. Whether customers are travelling for work, holidays, or visiting family and friends, every single person has a story and I feel so privileged to play a part in their day." - Mark, Qantas Boeing 737 Captain

We are excited to announce the opening of our new Broome Regional Lounge, part of a multi-million-dollar investment in our regional lounge network. The upgrades across the network will range from improved seating, enhanced technology, and modern furnishings. Artwork will also be selected to showcase the talent of Australian artists, and the installation of sustainable features which will reduce single use plastics. Over the coming months, upgrade work will commence on lounges in Karratha in Western Australia, Coffs Harbour & Tamworth in New South Wales, and Mackay, Emerald, Gladstone & Rockhampton in Queensland. The new Broome Lounge, which has double the capacity of the previous space and draws on the vibrant colours of the Dampier Peninsula, continues out support for regional West Australian travellers, alongside discounted fares through the resident fares program, and a new route set to launch in June between Perth and Busselton in the Margaret River Region.

In partnership with the Australian Government we’ve expanded the Australia Travel Declaration (ATD) pilot. The pilot initially applied to trans-Tasman flights into Brisbane, and will now include all Qantas international flights into the Queensland capital. Eligible passengers can complete the digital travel declaration in the Qantas App up to 72 hours prior to travel, which is an alternative to the paper incoming passenger card, for a more seamless travel experience. Since launching in October last year, more than 12,000 Qantas customers flying into Brisbane have opted to complete the digital declaration.

“Engineering runs in my family. I’ve been at Qantas for 25 years now, and it was pretty much a passing of the torch with my Dad on the day I arrived! The same day I did my interview for my apprenticeship, he was having his retirement celebration at the Sydney jet base nearby after 28 years of service. I’ve had a few different roles across the years, but the arrival of the Airbus A380 was momentous for Qantas, and for me. I was lucky to be involved when our A380 Engineering Department began, and it has set the standard for the rest of my career. I love working in engineering, as no two days are ever the same. It's a huge sense of satisfaction when you work on an aircraft and then send it off to its next destination. I'm proud to be an engineer and helping to pave the way for women interested in this line of work. Here at Qantas, all the engineers are so hard-working and professional, and we're all nothing but supportive of one another. It's why so many start here and end up finishing decades later with lifelong friendships. It's a great family to be a part of." - Sonia, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer at Sydney International

“Aviation runs through my family, passed onto me from my mum, and now I’ve been able to pass it onto my kids! My mum was a flight attendant for TAA in the 1970s and encouraged me to apply in 2010 when I was around the age she was when she started flying. It was so special to follow in her footsteps, and I’ve now been flying for over 14 years for QantasLink on the Dash 8 fleet. Working for QantasLink means a lot to me, as I love being able to connect our regional communities to the capital cities, including places like Tamworth, which has a big part in my family's history. We have so many regular customers who come from various regional towns, and they make your work day so special to see those familiar faces and pick up on past conversations. My eldest son has become aviation obsessed, and knows more about our aircraft than me! It was great to be able to bring him along to a recent hangar event for our latest Q400s, and I will be seriously shocked if he doesn’t end up at the Qantas Pilot Academy in Toowoomba when he’s old enough. I hope to see you onboard one of our Dash 8 flights soon!” - Ali, QantasLink Cabin Crew

"I’ve always been fascinated by aviation and travel, so when the opportunity came to join Qantas, I jumped at it. I started as a Customer Service Agent at Melbourne Airport while studying, and I absolutely loved being on the frontline. It gave me real insight into how an airline operates and showed me just how dynamic this industry is. When I finished my studies, the Qantas Graduate Program felt like the perfect next step—it’s an amazing way to experience different parts of the business, undertaking four different rotations and gaining knowledge across a broad spectrum of business areas. With aviation being such a vast and ever changing industry, there are endless opportunities for all kinds of people with diverse skillsets. Right now, I’m in my second rotation with the Fleet Programs team, working on the training campaign for the entry into service of our brand-new Airbus A321XLR. Every day is different, and that’s what makes working at Qantas so exciting. To me, the Qantas spirit is all about purpose, people, and pride. It’s the passion our teams bring every day, the way we support each other, and the legacy we carry as Australia’s national airline." -Ben, General Stream Graduate Apply for the Qantas Graduate program here: bit.ly/4bRAhmE

“It’s so great when a young girl comes up to you and realises that she can be a pilot one day too.” 😍 Last week across the Qantas Group over 50 flights were operated by an all-female crew to mark International Women’s Day, helping inspire the next generation of females in aviation. The all-female flights are about continuing to support, showcase and celebrate the amazing women we have in the industry, who help us succeed safely day in, day out.

We were proud to march up Oxford St on Saturday once again for the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. The Qantas Group Illuminate network of LGBTQI+ staff and allies came together 'Free to Be' as we embraced and rejoiced in our unique individuality, as well as our collective identity. Qantas is a proud long-term partner of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, and this year we were able to give $25,000 in flight support for not-for-profit organisations ACON First Nations Health Programmes & Free Mum Hugs to travel to Sydney to march in the Parade. We hope everyone had a great night, and see you all at Mardi Gras 2026!
