About us
Sydney Motorsport is a Formula SAE team based at the University of Sydney. Our team is comprised of mostly engineering and business students – with several members from other faculties. The team is based within the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. Formula SAE (FSAE) is an annual engineering competition provisioned by SAE Australasia (Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia). Participating teams are required to design and manufacture an open wheel, single seat race car from scratch, and then prove its abilities in a series of dynamic and static events. The static events aim to test the design and engineering concepts of the car, whereas the dynamic events test the physical performance of the car around a race track.

After 22 years, Sydney Motorsport’s IC journey came to a close at the 2023 FSAE-A Competition. Our 2023 challenger, SM22, was a testament of not only this year’s hard work and efforts but the passion, dedication and drive all previous generations of Sydney Motorsport has poured into this project. Our achievements at Calder Park, notably having our car cross the line for Endurance, was a reflection of the incredible 22 year journey that brought us here. It was a week of immense learning and we are pleased to announce our preliminary results: 2nd Overall (IC Class) 🥇1st in Business Presentation 🥇1st in Cost 🥈2nd in Design 🥈2nd in Acceleration 🥈2nd in Autocross 🥈2nd in Endurance Our deepest thank you to all of our sponsors, without whom this project wouldn't be possible especially our diamond sponsors at Vinta, CH Warman Foundation, The Chancellor’s Committee, School of AMME, AMKmotion and the James N. Kirby Foundation. We'd also like to extend our thanks to all of our friends and family for your unwavering support! And thank you to our gracious competitors Edith Cowan University Racing, WESMO, TDU Racing and Western Sydney Formula SAE, it was a pleasure competing alongside you in our final IC entry. As well as UOW Motorsport for being our wonderful pit neighbours! As we close this chapter, we cannot wait to open the next.
