The fact that only 24 beds are funded for Vinnie's 40-bed AOD residential rehab facility in Armidale highlights the urgent need for more treatment funding, especially for rural and regional communities. The closest facility to Armidale is in Newcastle, almost a 4 hour drive away, which is a huge barrier for many in rural areas - especially for younger people or mums and dads with children. They deserve better. They deserve access to the services they need. Currently only 12% of total Government spending goes to treatment services, with the majority going to courts and justice. It's time for the whole of government to respond and prioritise the health and wellbeing of those experiencing drug dependency. Together, we can find fairer, more compassionate and more effective solutions. We are thrilled to announce the launch of Fuse, the Uniting Donor Circle. Fuse brings together a passionate community of supporters who share a commitment to creating a brighter future for individuals and communities in need. This week, we were honoured to have Fuse officially launched by our Chief Executive Officer, Tracey Burton and Heather Watson, Fuse Founding Lead and outgoing Uniting Board Chair. "The value of 'giving' is in the DNA of Uniting - the history of Uniting’s services is rooted in the generosity of individuals and communities who recognised unmet needs and responded by giving their time and resources. With the launch of Fuse, I am pleased to bring together passionate people who want to create lasting change to disrupt patterns of disadvantage. "We are building a community of people who believe we can make a difference by backing the impactful activities and advocacy voice of Uniting," said Heather Watson. The event was an opportunity to hear from Dr Andrew Young, outgoing Uniting Board member, Anita Le Lay, Executive Manager of Uniting’s Communities Directorate, who spoke about the challenges and opportunities for young people transitioning from out-of-home care. We were also privileged to hear reflections from a young person currently residing at Foyer Central, who shared how transformative the coaching program has been for her. We invite you to embark on this journey with us and learn more about Fuse at www.uniting.org/fuse
