  • Three years ago, the Northern Rivers floods destroyed thousands of homes. Today families are still waiting for a place to call home. The pod villages were supposed to be a temporary solution, but they've become the only option for many. Finding long-term housing in the region has become nearly impossible. The Uniting Recovery Service Team help residents access mental health support and secure permanent housing. They advocate for them, connect them with financial and legal aid, and help them move forward. But for these residents the crisis isn't over. They need real homes and not temporary solutions. Let's keep talking about it, because the longer we wait, the harder it gets. #WeAreUniting #Homeless #homelessness #Auspol #Support #flood #recovery #Help #NFP

  • In 2007 the National Agreement on Closing the Gap campaign launched following Professor Tom Calma’s 2005 Social Justice report which emphasised health as a human right. 20 years later and the gap is still significantly large. We have a long way to go but together we can work towards a better future for First Nations peoples and communities. • In an increasingly polarised world, where differences too often divide, we take pride in the rich cultural diversity of our people. At Uniting, diversity isn’t just celebrated, it’s a powerful asset. This #HarmonyWeek, we honour our people, their cultures, their inclusive nature, and their contribution. They are part of the rich tapestry that forms the foundation of our work, and the voices of our culturally diverse people strengthen us all. As part of the ongoing relief efforts in the flood affected Northern Rivers of NSW, our Recovery Support Service team are helping with the distribution of 500 hampers of much needed food. “We will be assisting in the delivery of around 500 hampers to be made available to anyone who has lost power, is struggling to get food, or has been forced out of their home including people living in the Pod Villages,” said Tracey Burton, Uniting NSW.ACT’s Chief Executive. “We are immensely grateful to our local leaders and our wonderful staff who have worked so hard to coordinate emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of our employees and clients. “The safety of our people and those we serve in the community is always our highest priority. “These communities have been so adversely affected over recent years, many people are still living in temporary housing, including the Wardell and Brunswick Heads Pod Villages - which we currently operate on behalf of The NSW Reconstruction Authority following the 2022 floods. “Uniting will always roll up our collective sleeves and play our part in helping those most in need,” she said. A huge thank you to our team and our thoughts are with our colleagues and clients in the affected areas. #WeAreUniting #support #flood #Help #ThankYou #Proud

  • Congratulations to Uniting Grantham Heights Early Learning Director, Kamilia Mahfouz, on being awarded the Prospect Local Woman of the Year 2025!🎉 Member for Prospect, Dr. Hugh McDermott, presented Kamilia with the award at the NSW Women of Year Awards - which celebrates the incredible women and girls improving the lives of people in NSW. After migrating from Egypt, Kamilia arrived in Australia feeling far from home. Inspired by Grantham Heights' inclusive community spirit, she started volunteering at the Centre. Thanks to that experience, Kamilia practiced and became proficient in English, completed her Diploma in Early Childhood Education and commenced employment at the Centre, quickly rising to Director. Kamilia goes above and beyond to foster a welcoming environment for children and their families. Passionate about fostering developmental milestones, she gives each child a head-start to reach their full potential. “Kamilia is a shining example of compassion, community spirit and determination and a wonderful ambassador for our local Prospect Electorate,” said Dr. McDermott. Congratulations Kamilia and thank you for the positive impact you have at Uniting and on the families we serve. 💜🙌 #WeAreUniting #EarlyLearning #Awards #Career #Parenting #AwardWinner

  • Uniting Director Social Impact and Innovation, Tammy Pararajasingham, tells Channel 10 First News how non-financial barriers are preventing 1 in 10 children from quality early learning. Without investment in the proven solution of a navigator model such as Uniting’s Links to Early Learning, to guide families through the complex early learning system, too many will continue to miss out on its lifelong benefits – despite guaranteed subsidies. We’re calling for continued action to ensure every child gets the best start in life. 👉Find out more about the More than Money campaign: https://lnkd.in/gQBhRx5m #WeAreUniting #EarlyLearning #Parents #Parenting #AusPol #NSWpol

  • Tomorrow is International Women’s Day, and nothing says “moving forward” like pioneering a national program that addresses the barriers that prevent culturally and racially marginalised (CARM) women from advancing to leadership roles. The RISE program underscores Uniting’s commitment to advancing culturally diverse leaders and tailoring professional development and mentoring that removes systemic barriers and accelerates careers. The Diversity Council Australia (DCA), in partnership with Settlement Services International (SSI) and Chief Executive Women (CEW), launched the RISE program and Uniting NSW.ACT was welcomed as the only not-for-profit participant. We can't wait to share more with you throughout the year. 🤍 📩 Learn more here - https://bit.ly/41HeHho [or link in Instagram bio] #InternationalWomensDay #CALD #Career #ProfessionalDevelopment #Diversity #Leadership #Inclusion #Uniting #RISEProject

This week, we stand alongside The Parenthood, SNAICC - National Voice for our Children and United Way Australia, with a united call for the government to address the non-financial barriers preventing 1 in 10 children from participating in quality early learning.     Without investment in the proven solution of a navigator model such as Uniting’s Links to Early Learning, to guide families through the complex early learning system, too many will continue to miss out on its lifelong benefits – despite guaranteed subsidies.     Our joint statement is formed by a strong group of early learning advocates and providers, united in our call to action.     “We believe that recognition of non-financial barriers is a critical piece of the policy puzzle. By investing in community-based linker programs to reach the communities that need it most, we can close that gap and ensure a better future for children.” Tamara Pararajasingham, Director of Impact and Innovation at Uniting NSW.ACT.    👉 Read the joint statement and learn more at: https://lnkd.in/gYKGt3eq    #WeAreUniting #MoreThanMoney #EarlyLearning #Educator #EarlyLearningMatters #AusPol #NSWpol Georgie Dent
