‼️👷 Today we’ve sent dozens of paper houses to decision makers in the EU’s Special Housing Committee to encourage and inspire them to make deep home renovations the top priority during their mandate. 🔨 Why? Because the time is now to pour their energy into solving one of Europe’s most pressing challenges: the state of our building stock. Delivering energy-efficient homes that are powered by renewable energy are key for social justice and the climate ⬇️ - lowering the EU’s energy demand - boosting energy security - cutting carbon emissions - lifting people out of energy poverty Better homes help us build better lives! 🎴 What does this action entail? Decision makers will be able to renovate their paper house by collecting solutions that will help them improve the energy efficiency of their paper home - one sticker at a time ➕ experience the savings that can be achieved. The Build Better Lives Campaign aims to ensure decent, affordable and energy efficient homes for all.
About us
Build Better Lives aims to ensure decent, affordable and energy efficient homes and buildings for all. It brings together over 90 social justice, housing, climate, and youth civil society organisations, in a pan-European, people-oriented campaign for a socially just built environment that lifts millions out of energy poverty. Better buildings build better lives through creating safer, healthier and more comfortable environments where many of us work, play and live. More energy efficient buildings reduces our energy consumption, which lowers our energy bills along with greenhouse gas emissions. This all starts with policy and political will. Governments need to implement EU and national legislations around building renovation and heating decarbonisation in a manner that is inclusive and will deliver benefits for all.

It is time for EU decisionmakers to ensure home renovations are a tool for justice ❤️💚
Yesterday in the European Parliament, 🏛️ Laia Segura Cueto reminded decisionmakers that it is time to act on ensuring decent, affordable and energy-effiecient housing for all: 🔴 Make energy renovations fair and accessible! Protect tenants, support low-income homeowners, and ensure no one is left behind. 🔴 Secure funding and social protections! Renovations must benefit people, not just the market ➕ prioritise funding for vulnerable households. 🔴 Tackle the worst-performing buildings first! Insulate, phase out fossil fuels, and switch to renewable heating and cooling. 🔴 Repurpose vacant buildings and turn them into homes for those who need them most. 🔴 Invest in public housing 🔴 Renovate, don’t speculate! Implement rent controls and anti-speculation measures to protect homes from becoming financial assets. #BuildBetterLives

🏘️ Insulating Europe’s homes isn’t just about comfort – it’s key to lowering energy bills, reducing carbon footprints, and improving public health. Nearly 20% of the EU population lives in cold, poorly insulated homes. This leads to discomfort, health issues, and costly energy bills. Insulating our homes can: 🔹 decrease a household's energy use up to 70% 🔹 reduce energy bills for the 47+ million Europeans facing energy poverty Let's make insulation a priority for a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable Europe. 🎙️ In Radio Popolare, Francesca Canali from MIRA presented the conclusions from an event they held last week in Rome as part of the Build Better Lives campaign. The event covered building renovation, social justice and just transition, addressing the challenges and opportunities of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the role of institutions, civil society, industry and trade unions in ensuring adequate and efficient housing for all. You can listen to the episode here: https://lnkd.in/dhD2b5du
Grazie a Gianluca Ruggieri e Elena Mordiglia.

Tomorrow marks the 100th day of the European Commission.🎈 The day they will reveal their #ActionPlan for #AffordableEnergy. We say: YES! to the Commission’s focus on the affordability of energy NO! to an energy transition that does not prioritise access to affordable energy and energy efficient homes to vulnerable communities A real action plan must include measures that will deliver: 🔨 Renovated homes that lower energy bills for people 🏠 Renovated buildings that lower our carbon footprint 🩵 Tangible financial & technical support for low-income groups ☀️ Clear and accessible pathways to clean, green and sustainable energy #100Days
