About us
The League of European Research Universities (LERU) is a network of 24 leading research-intensive universities based in 12 countries around Europe. LERU universities share the values of high-quality teaching within an environment of internationally competitive research and are committed to the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of research across a broad front. LERU is a prominent advocate for the promotion of basic research at European research universities. We strongly believe that basic research plays an essential role in the innovation process and significantly contributes to the progress of society. We aim at furthering politicians’, policy makers’ and opinion leaders’ understanding of the important role and activities of research-intensive universities. ✍ LERU and YERUN - Young European Research Universities received response to open letter from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. At the end of October 2024, LERU and YERUN wrote an open letter to EC President von der Leyen, sharing their insights and recommendations on the new approach to the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (#MFF) and the future of EU R&I funding. The response to that letter, which you can read below, sounds promising. We are particularly glad to read that the EU's commitment to R&I remains unwavering, and that R&I will be a top priority in the upcoming MFF and Framework Programme (#FP10). Read the full letter 👇 .
