🚀 Introducing MOWSES: Green steel for safe and sustainable infrastructure! 🌍🏗️   We're thrilled to announce the official launch of the EU-funded MOWSES Project (Multi-faceted Assessment and Optimization of Welded Structural Green Steel Plates for Use in European Sustainable Infrastructure)! This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize the use of green steel in critical European infrastructure by ensuring the safe application of welded scrap-based steel in sectors like energy and beyond.   💡 Backed by over €4.5M in funding from the EU's Twin Green and Digital Transition program, the project will focus on:   ·      Reducing CO2 emissions in steel production by up to 50% by using increased amounts of scrap ·      Developing innovative alloying concepts to handle impurities in scrap-based steel ·      Ensuring the safe application of welded structures, crucial for wind turbines and other large structures   Coordinated by OCAS NV in Belgium, the project brings together a consortium of leading industrial partners and universities from 4 European countries. With technologies like machine learning and thermodynamic simulations, MOWSES is set to make a significant impact on Europe’s path to climate neutrality by 2050.   Using steel that is greener, stronger, and more reliable - we can start building Europe’s future now! 💚🌱   #GreenSteel #Sustainability #Innovation #Infrastructure #CleanEnergy #EUfunded #ClimateNeutral #MOWSESsteel #WeldingTechnology #HorizonEurope

We are pleased to invite you to look at the program and register for the 5th edition of the Metal Plasticity Seminar, taking place at the premises of OCAS (Belgium) on Tuesday, November 19, from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM. It is an ESAFORM-supported thematic workshop on Metal Plasticity and this year MPS 2024 focuses on "Material Testing 2.0 for Thermomechanical Characterization of High Strength Steels." This seminar, an annual event organized by Prof. Sam Coppieters from KU LEUVEN and Dr. Steven Cooreman from OCAS NV, serves as a platform for professionals in the field of metal plasticity to discuss state-of-the-art advancements, current research challenges, and future developments. The seminar aims to enhance the collaboration between theoretical material modelling, computational and experimental plasticity, and the development of industrial applications. The seminar is free of charge for ESAFORM members. In the morning program, renowned international experts will deliver keynote lectures on Material Testing 2.0 for characterizing plastic material behavior of metals. In the afternoon, the achievements of the VForm-xSteels project will be presented. The event will conclude with an exhibition by DYNAmore, MatchID, and Plastometrex, as well as a poster session. We look forward to your participation in this enriching event. Interested? At the 2024 awards ceremony of the French Nuclear Energy Society (Sfen - Société française d'énergie nucléaire), Christoph Gerritsen from ArcelorMittal Global R&D (OCAS NV) was co-awarded the Prize for Technological Innovation together with other members of the RFCS collaborative project SCHEDULE consortium. The project investigated the steel concrete composite construction technique for an emergency diesel generator building. It resulted in the construction of a full-scale, 24x12x15 m demonstrator and allowed detailed and quantified comparison with traditional reinforced concrete construction. Our thanks to Sfen for this prize and the project partners (Steel Construction Institute, EDF, Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, Peikko Group Corporation, Egis, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Industeel) for the pleasant and successful collaboration!
