The School of Community and Public Affairs’ Indigenous land-based education program is open for applications. You can find more information about it here: https://lnkd.in/gYwK5Nme This program consists of 4 courses, one of which is an FPST course (FPST 210: Haudenosaunee Peoples) and the other 3 courses unique to this program, in which students split their time between the classroom and land-based learning activities, in Kahnawake and Montreal. For those who are interested in taking the program, I wanted to share the following information: Due to ministry regulations, if you are a currently registered student at Concordia, you cannot enroll in this program as a “microprogram”. However, you can enroll in these courses as electives, and if you complete all 4, you can fill out a form before graduation that you submit to the registrar’s office that will give you a “letter of completion” that shows you did all the courses in the program, so that you can list them on your CV and the like. This program is separate from First Peoples Studies. If you are an FPST major or minor, these courses will not go towards your major or minor; they are electives. If you have any questions about the administrative side of this, please do not hesitate to contact me: Anna Sheftel, Principal of SCPA, anna.sheftel@concordia.ca and I will be happy to help you. If you would like to apply to enroll in these courses, you will need to provide the following documents: A letter of intent explaining your motivations, experiences with Indigenous communities and related knowledge and skills An unofficial transcript You can send all this to Cathy Richardson, Director of First Peoples Studies – Catherine.richardson@concordia.ca. She may also arrange for a short interview with an FPST prof as part of the admissions process.
